Honestly, Indivara had taken to being Weyrlingmaster quite well; she enjoyed it — after all, she'd always been prone to bossing people around and she loved being in a position of authority. The fact that many of her students were her own age (and even, in several cases, people she’d literally grown up with and gone to crèche with) only made it all the better for the young woman. She thrived.
Sure, there were hiccups, and the three women were each a bane on her existence — though each for different reasons! Vessaelia was the one that frustrated Indivara the most, but the girl was improving and Indivara (and Daelyne and Tala) were quick to shut up anyone that caused trouble. Indivara didn’t step in too often, because she wanted the women to get used to standing up for themselves. It wasn’t too bad, right now, because it was mostly their class members and a few more stupid candidates or young folk. The elder people either kept their opinions more quiet, or had gotten it all out of their system when Indivara herself went through Weyrlinghood. One of the reasons she couldn’t bring herself to get too hard on Daelyne was because they all knew Indivara herself had caused an assortment of injuries to bullies during her own Weyrlinghood.
That said, Indivara still made sure the right people saw her scolding the other girl when required. She wasn’t going to get told she was going lightly on anyone, and honestly, Indivara made the three greenriders work twice as hard as their male companions. Not because she didn’t believe they were just as good, but because Indivara knew how bloody damned hard it was to get taken seriously by the other riders. The girls would always have to work twice as hard to get half the praise of their colourmates.
So, when Indivara heard the sounds of a scrape (and many a horrified holder) not far away, she knew who it was. She knew even before Venseth filled her in, and before her firelizards — who were both on spy duty — came scampering back to tattle tale on the excitable girl. Indivara sent Saph off to continue his rounds, while she kept Queenie with her and wove through the growing crowd. Indivara kept her face neutral, but had to stamp on more than a few toes and elbow a few kidneys to get through. She wasn’t sure if her diminutive height was a bonus or a hindrance at that point.
Standing on the edge of the crowd, almost hidden in the shade of a tent selling wares, Indivara watched as the holder girl? — She couldn’t see her knots — finally took off, looking pretty worse for ware. Indivara waited, watching Daelyn quietly; she wanted to see if any of the Holders were going to step in, cause more trouble. Indivara wasn’t particularly politically savvy and she really didn’t want to have to deal with some uptight Holder that she’d probably tell to go fuck himself.
That really wouldn’t help that scenario.
When no one stepped forward, but everyone was still gawking, Indivara slipped into the no-man’s land surrounding Daelyn and lifted her eyebrow at the young woman. “Daelyn,” she said mildly, “watch your language.” Indivara’s lips twitched just slightly, her own blue eyes sparkling with amusement as she gave the greenrider a solid look up and down, as if she’d never seen her before. Which honestly, while very few of the Holders around them would recognise Indivara’s knots they would take in that she was a bluerider. “Holders are such a delicate group. It’s the lack of sunshine. Too much time spent sulking in the tunnels, afraid of the sky.” Her smirk was mischievous, encouraging the other girl to insult the weak little bastards back to her.
It had been so long since Indivara had gotten to stir up trouble!
