Verec studied Madiquel for a few long moments, watching for any signs of uncertainty. Hesitancy was fine, it didn’t hurt her to take the extra moment to consider, but uncertainty wasn’t. As far as he could tell, she was as sure as a, what, fifteen, sixteen turn old girl could be. Which wasn’t to dismiss teenage girls decisions, but Verec knew teenagers — boys too — could be a little flighty, and something they were sure of one moment could change a month later. Madiquel didn’t seem of that type, but he had only just met her. But from what Verec saw in their short meeting, she seemed absolutely sincere, and like she would stick by her word.
Good. He could work with that.
After another few seconds, during which he took some time to write a few notes in his shorthand, Verec nodded.
“Very well. Madiquel of Fort Weyr, I invite you to be a Junior Apprentice of the Healer Hall, active immediately. I expect you to be ready to begin your training within the month. Any questions about living accommodations or what you will need to provide for yourself can be directed to Journeyman Persel or Dolera, our Head of housekeeping. Persel is in charge of the Junior Apprentices, and I will introduce you to him before you leave today,” he said formally. “Are there any immediate concerns you feel a need to address before you leave? If not, you are welcome to return to your ride.”
