Ttalian failed to see what numbers and lyrics had to do with anything. There was some theory out there about how music and math were closely aligned, but neither interested him too much. Talian was skilled with numbers, but they were a side interest, something to stretch his brain when it went too long without use. He'd grown quite fond of doodling little number puzzles in his first few weeks at the Weyr, simply for lack of anything else to do. He was still refusing to treat patients back then, usually even denying his position as any kind of healer. An unsuccessful denial, but one that he attempted nonetheless.
He realized with a bit of disappointment that even this seemingly unrelated topic managed to bring his thoughts back to his situation. It was frustrating and he found it terribly unfair to B'jin, but what was he to do? Ignore it like a watch wher in the room? So far, that had only made the trip awkward.
Defeated, Talian let out a bit of a groan as he wiggled closer to B'jin. He turned his head to one side, looking upwards at the sky again. "You know," he muttered, resigned rather than bitter, "If this had been done before the plague, back when people were searched...normally...I bet I would have done it," he said, speaking less in admission and more like he'd made a scientific discovery. "...Just to piss my dad off."
It was almost funny. Actually, upon imagining the look on his father's face, it was funny. Talian let out the softest, most ticked little laugh.
