Talian watched the exchange between B'jin and Larrikith half-attentively, his attention fluctuating between that and the sky overhead. It was a nice day, and being the busy and generally sullen little wretch that he was, Tal had almost no casual appreciation for beauty. He never stopped to look at things. He analyzed them, studied them, watched them, but never saw them.
The scenery didn't rouse his enthusiasm like it might a harper's, but he did smile just the same. His eyes traced B'jin's movement as the greenrider lay beside him. Startled, Tal let out a little squeak as he was pulled to B'jin's side, but he didn't complain. Talian was content to lie there, clutching lightly to his surrogate father in a manner that would have made his real father roll his eyes.
"New?" Talian inquired. He started to talk about work, but was stopped cold by B'jin's preemption.
Well, that made things difficult.
"Um."
There was a long pause as the boy turned the recent days' events over in his head. He could literally think of nothing outside of work. Distressed upon realizing just how boring he'd become, he rested his chin against B'jin's shoulder and sighed. "...But that's all I do," he complained exasperatedly. In a Faranth-forsaken place like Katila, there wasn't anything else for him to do.
Well, he could comment on how the lining of his stomach had finally fully healed from his Tansy adventure, but that would probably ruin the mood. Instead, he pouted comically, frustrated at his inability to hold a stimulating conversation.
