It made him feel a little silly, but M’dox had gotten so used to sharing his bed that when he’d gone to sleep that night he’d made sure to add a few extra pillows so it didn’t feel so empty without T’bia. And it’s not like M’dox was upset or anything that T’bia wasn’t there — the bluerider was with his family, that was important! M’dox should visit with his family more often, if he ever worked up the nerve to go back. One day. Soon.
Still, it wasn’t T’bia’s fault M’dox was clingy and overemotional and needed to fill his bed with pillows because he couldn’t sleep one night without his boyfriend (M’dox internally squeaked in happiness every time he thought the word). It was so stupid, but it didn’t stop M’dox from curling up around one of his many pillows and wishing it was T’bia.
It took him a little longer than usual to fall asleep, but eventually M’dox slipped into sleep, full of unremarkable dreams, until something brought him back to waking. He couldn’t have named it, but it was Riquarth’s sudden alertness that had drawn him from sleep, though the dragon did not reach out to his rider. Riquarth had only stirred enough to determine the new presence in their weyr was only Jycenth and T’bia, not even bothering to open an eye as Jycenth asked that he not alert M’dox. There was no risk his rider would panic at T’bia showing up unannounced, so Riquarth simply went back to sleep. However, Riquarth had been awake enough that M’dox seemed to unconsciously pick up on his dragon checking who their visitors were, and the slight movement of the bed as T’bia climbed into it was enough to wake him back up. He scrunched up his nose a little when T’bia kissed him, reacting to the slight chill of the bluerider who had decided to go outside in the early hours while it was snowing.
“Hnng, cold,” M’dox mumbled, pulling up the blankets even further to cover his face before he realized why he was suddenly cold and blinked his eyes open. “T’bia?” he asked sleepily, reaching out to curl an arm around him and pull him closer, despite the bluerider being decidedly less warm than his pillows. Worth the temporary chill. M’dox breathed contentedly for a moment, too tired to question what T’bia was doing suddenly showing up, though after a few moments T’bia’s words registered and M’dox’s eyebrows furrowed in sleepy confusion.
“What’re you sorry for?” he asked, snuggling closer to his boyfriend. Was it for being cold or something? That was fine, T’bia was already warming up and M’dox didn’t actually mind. Was something wrong? It was too early and M’dox was too sleepy and warm for things to be wrong.
