F’drel nodded, confirming T’ryn had his name right, and slowly approached the bronzerider’s blanket. He wasn’t sure how comfortable he felt joining a man he didn’t know on a blanket, but R’dal and Mylorah both vouched for him being decent. Not that he completely trusted anyone else’s judgement, and Mylorah was a bit biased considering the man was her brother, but it was more assurance of safety than he usually got. Besides, F’drel figured it would be rude to refuse the offer of blanket space and being rude to bronzeriders struck him as a poor idea. And he really needed to be on hand in case Miri offended Syrendryth.
“Pestering is one word for it,” he said, gingerly sitting down on the edge of the indicated space. “Does your sister usually choose random people she’s never met to befriend?” F’drel thought it was par for the course with Mylorah, but the way his life had been going that turn he wouldn’t be surprised if he were an exception. She really did seem the type to think people needed friends and befriend them, though. For a while she’d just said hi and sometimes invited him to things — that he usually declined, but sometimes Miri put her foot down when it was things she could attend to, like the camping trip — but she’d started paying a little more attention the past few months. Maybe that was because of R’dal? It was indirectly because of her they had become friends — or whatever they were — and maybe she had taken that as a reason to get to know F’drel better? Fuck if he understood how weyrbrats thought, they were all too fucking open and determined to know everyone and their business.
Speaking of R’dal, he wanted to clarify something T’ryn said. “Do you mean R’dal mentions visiting me a lot as in he says he visits a lot or he mentions it a lot?” F’drel wanted to know for sure, because he’d like to know how much he had to be worried about R’dal talking about him to everyone. Well, to friends, but R’dal seemed to define friends like Miri did — he talked to them once, it didn’t suck, so they were friends from then on. F’drel shot a quick glance towards the lake, where Miri was currently in the process of hopefully making a new her-and-R’dal style friend.
Oh, good! I’m glad you’re well! the green said cheerfully, meaning every word, I’m here to swim, though I suppose I could sun when I’m done swimming, couldn’t I? That might be nice. Are you here to swim too? Do you mind if I join? Halomirth asked eagerly, sitting down in the water a few lengths from the bronze. She didn’t want to crowd him, after all, though if he was alright with her being close that was obviously good! Bronzes didn’t seem the cuddliest sort, but Halomirth didn’t know any bronzes that well, and she would love to be surprised! Most of her friends were her size or smaller, but Syrendryth was bigger, and Halomirth thought that might make the bronze excellent for leaning against. Only if he wanted her to, of course! Her eyes whirled a bright blue-green as she quietly swished her tail through the water waiting for Syrendryth’s response, creating tiny waves in the lake.
