Vessaelia was in a strange place. She was exhausted due to the hour and the trauma she was trying not to relive over and over in her head. Tala Impressing had helped shake some of it away for the time being, giving her something positive to think about. Heck, she was even okay thinking about how angry the old fuddy duddies would be that two women Impressed to green dragons. If any two would, it was definitely Tala and Daelyne. Those two could hold their own as well, she decided. Well, Daelyne definitely wouldn't have issues with people picking on her as she seemed feisty and scrappy. So long as Tala didn't have to fight dark hallways that twisted every which way, she should be fine as well.
She was still thinking about how the girls would do as greenriders when a green dragonet came toward her. She didn't pay it much attention since some of the boys had moved closer to her group, huddling along the wall. But Vessaelia couldn't ignore the vibrant green when she curled up around her, head lifting to look her in the eye. Something shifted inside of her even before the dragonet spoke and Vessaelia felt herself tensing with fear even as she felt the unconditional love hit her.
We really should not sit in the dirt, and you are covered in blood. A bath is needed for both of us, and food, but I can wait a little longer if you still need to rest. The softly spoken words of her dragon did nothing to soothe Vessaelia as she continued to stare in horror at the dragon--her dragon. Even as she lifted a hand to rest on the bright green head still watching her, she burst into tears. She was ugly crying in front of hundreds of people and she didn't care.
"But you're green!" She managed to point out in between heaving sobs. She Impressed! But it was to a green! This wasn't supposed to happen! A'dis would most certainly hate her now. Her dreams of being the perfect couple, maybe one day even leading a Weyr together were gone.
Tears should not be shed in public. Come, food and baths will make us both feel better. Vessaelia pouted at her dragon but nodded, knowing she was now responsible for the care of a dragon, no matter what the colour. She had to look after Tiath --oh, how strange. She knew her name without being told and not for the first time that night, Vessaelia marvelled at the bond between human and dragon.
She would have to face A'dis and all of the Weyr soon, but for now, she had to look after Tiath. She shooed the green away from her so she could stand, taking a moment to wipe away any loose sand. She didn't want to think about how she probably looked like the walking dead with blood and dirt all over, her hair falling loose from the bun, face streaked with tears and who knew what else, but Vessaelia did her best to stand tall and walk proudly to where her classmates were waiting. Tiath seemed to do better at the walk, looking like a prim and refined gold with the way she held her head and took dainty steps to keep pace with her human. There wasn't any dancing around, running ahead, or any antics.
Vessaelia managed a smile by the time they reached the group and she even managed to say Tiath's name without stuttering or crying again. Tiath was right; she had to be strong right now, but she could cry all she wanted to in private, and she knew she was going to enjoy that privilege quite a bit and for quite a while.
