Vessaelia screamed again when someone touched her, worrying it was the baby gold come to finish her off like she had the poor girl draped over her legs. She took another breath, ready to continue her banshee wail when Tala finally got through to her and she nodded. Yes, they had to get away, but where? Where would be safe from the little ball of murder? She clutched Tala’s hand as the other girl led her off and away from where more screams came from, so it seemed they were headed in the right direction. When they reached a wall, Vessaelia didn’t even think about being trapped, mind shutting down as she tried to process everything happening but failing.
She slid to the floor, still clutching onto Tala even after the chaos seemed to end. She heard people shouting orders, both to organise everyone and to get Healers to certain people, but it all seemed so far away and dreamlike. She had come close to being injured or killed but managed to avoid it, though Vessaelia was willing to trade in the sight of a dead girl on her for a physical wound right then. Every time she closed her eyes, she saw the vacant stare of the girl and if she looked down at herself, she saw the girl’s blood on her robe and hands. She was half tempted to strip it off right then and there and would have as well if it wasn’t for the sudden hush that fell when eggs started cracking again.
Right, there were still eggs out there. But she was only here for the gold. Maybe she could leave? Not that anyone was really paying attention to the area they were huddled in since they weren’t injured or running around in a panic. She was far too tired for running, in fact, Vessaelia really wanted to find A’dis, curl up beside him in bed, and never let go. She was afraid to sleep and let the nightmares in but maybe his presence would keep them at bay.
When a green wandered in their direction, Vessaelia tensed, wondering if she could stand and run before a claw swiped at her, but the green dragonet stopped running and came to a stop before Tala…and they spoke to each other. Vessaelia watched the interaction with curiosity, fear forgotten for the moment as she watched an Impression up close and personal. Of course she had seen it happen before, quite a bit tonight even, but it was different sitting a foot away from the action. Not that there was a lot of action, but the interaction was sweet and she found herself smiling.
When Tala turned to wave at her, Vessaelia didn’t even realise she had been forgotten until that moment. Finding your lifemate was special and took priority over everything else around you. She smiled a bit brighter and waved back at her friend, giving some words of congratulations as the pair walked off.
Despite the trauma brought on by a gold dragon, Vessaelia decided she still wanted her little gold to connect with like Tala had with her green. Oh! If Tala Impressed, that meant they weren’t likely to go to the Hold for a day of winter fun like they had talked about not too long ago. Perhaps the following year they could do that.
