Every time a green hatched Tala quietly hoped it would toddle over towards the girls and pick one of them. She wasn’t against Impressing gold herself, but why limit her options? Greens were lovely little things, and she’d been raised by a female bluerider, so she had no doubts women belonged on fighting dragons.
Of course, when dragonets finally did come over by the gold egg, it was as part of a fight. Tala’s heart beat faster, and she couldn’t tell which emotion was stronger — her excitement, or her fear. What if someone got hurt? But no one got hurt. The pursuing green, the one with the bright whitish splotch, halted her chase as she investigated the girls. She felt the greens focus on her, intense and considering, before it passed her over and landed on Daelyne.
“Oh,” Tala gasped excitedly, clapping her hands together as Daelyne hugged the dragonet, “congratulations!” She couldn’t think of a better girl to get the spunky green, and she absolutely beamed at the pair as they walked off. When the Hatching was over, Tala absolutely had to go congratulate her properly. Well, maybe not properly properly, the dragonet — Tybalith? Had she heard that right? — would probably object to that, but she definitely deserved at least a hug.
The delight at Daelyne’s Impression was briefly dashed when a Candidate was injured, and Tala could swear her heart stopped for a moment. But it was fine, the injury was minor, and the green Impressed without further issue. The boy didn’t even leave the Sands. It was fine, everything was fine, she was fine.
