R’dare never missed a Hatching if he had a say in the matter. Sometimes duty came first like playing ferry or being dubbed the lucky one who got to lend a hand in the crèche while everyone else got to go have fun. But he didn’t miss Telgar’s. He got there in the middle of the pack, but it was still early enough to claim some good seats for him and a few friends that were coming. They still had some fellow Katila ‘brats to cheer on! Of course they had made friends with various other Candidates and R’dare waved to some of them as they trickled in, but it’d never be like the bond they had from Katila.
Or the bond forged when you were having casual sex with someone.
He saw Daelyne enter with the other girls but they were a bit too far away to really try to wave her down, not that she’d really care if he did or not. She wasn’t the clingy sort and he appreciated that. They had fun together when they felt like it but nothing was tying them together. He did give Casa a little head nod in greeting when he caught her eye and then did his best to casually look away back out at the Candidates. Why did he greet her? He hadn’t really spent much time with her since the camping trip, definitely not alone, though he had gotten over the shock of what he had done, with whom, and how many that night.
He needed to stop thinking about the gorgeous blondes in his life and what he’d like to do with them and focus on the eggs that were finally about to give them a show. He was happy it was much calmer than some of the others in recent memory, especially since he saw the back of Madiquel’s head, sitting with the Fort leaders. She didn’t need to see carnage again and he wasn’t really a fan of it either. When someone was finally mauled, it didn’t bother him too much, knowing that was par for the course, though he did wince at the initial reveal and breathed a sigh of relief when the Candidate seemed fine.
When a couple of fighting greens stole centre stage, R’dare watched them with fascination. What type of man would bond to them? What were the dragons like? Would Kadaisicalth befriend them or want to chase them when they were older? When they headed for the girls, R’dare chuckled at the squeals that came from many of them and then fell instantly silent when the spunky green and Daelyne seemed to have a moment.
Did she…
She did!
As they made it clear they were mated, R’dare was on his feet and giving a whoop of cheer, likely startling those near him and maybe even some on the Sands. He didn’t know, he was watching a friend walk off with her dragon. A Green! At Telgar! He wanted to laugh at the attitude both woman and dragonet were giving off, knowing it had to rub many the wrong way, but he never cared who was on what colour. Another dragon had joined their ranks and lived because of Daelyne so they could all shove it.
“Get it, girl! I knew you’d do it!” R’dare was happy for her and as soon as he could, he’d congratulate her more in person than screaming it across the Sands. He was sitting back down, still smiling at her happiness when realisation struck.
No more sex with Daelyne until the little green was ready to share again.
Well, shit.
He cast a sideways glance at Casa and wondered if she’d still be interested in playing with a lowly bluerider. Maybe he’d catch up with her after the Hatching and re-establish communications.
