When the blue firelizard appeared with a note, Quilriana was somewhat worried. It wasn't one of the usual ones that came with notes from her son updating her on his life in the Weyr so it was with a cautious hand that she accepted the paper. Relief flooded through her as she read the short note in R'nya's hand that the Hatching was about to begin and he would be by in an hour to pick her and Quilista up.
Excitement coursed through her and she quickly got her daughter into a bath, threatening the young girl that she would be left behind if she didn't bathe and if she took too long. She didn't want to embarrass Quinvalis by showing up dirty and shabby! It could be his big day. She was so happy R'nya convinced him to try Standing at Telgar, though she knew the boy wanted to stay at Fort near his favourite bronzerider. The chance to have him so close again was wonderful, especially if he Impressed. She knew he could transfer out eventually but she'd have her baby within a decent travel distance once more and that made her happy.
When R'nya arrived, both women were dressed and Quilriana had a bag of items she wanted to pass along to Quinvalis when the Hatching was over. Depending on how it went, a couple of items would be gifts to celebrate, but if he didn't Impress, she'd keep the one for later and pass the other over as simply a gift to show she missed him. He offered to find them a good spot, one close to where he was sitting with Rhaedalyn, but Quilriana declined. He might be a clueless man that didn't see an issue with having two lovers --and as the other woman, it didn't bother her either-- but from all his stories over the years, she knew Rhaedalyn was an intelligent girl that would eventually catch on if too much favourtism was shown and she didn't want the sweet girl upset.
She waved at her son and he smiled at her and even his sister. She was so proud of him! He looked miserable out there though, no matter how bright the smile when he saw his family, R'nya, and Madiquel. The girl really was a ray of sunshine and Quilriana was happy Quinvalis had her in his life.
When the eggs started hatching, Quilriana paid careful attention to every dragonet that went in the direction of where Quinvalis was, both excited he'd find his mate, but also worried there would be an injury. When an injury finally did happen, she gasped and held Quilista close. It didn't seem too bad, but the boy had been standing near her son and it was almost too close for comfort. Quinvalis seemed a little shaken by the event but he held his ground and she smiled her encouragement at him when his gaze sought her out again.
