F’drel had no personal interest in Hatchings — he already had Miri, and he didn’t exactly have Candidate friends to go support, so why bother? — but Halomirth absolutely loved them. She always wanted to go see the new babies, to hum along excitedly with the rest of the dragons, to be surrounded by everyone and all the excitement. Which was near opposite what F’drel wanted to do, but he couldn’t say no to Miri. Hatchings weren’t awful, he just wouldn’t go if he didn’t have to.
And of course, now he had someone else wanting him to go to Hatchings. R’dal had mentioned that he was going the other day and given him one of those expectant looks where F’drel could tell he was asking if F’drel was going to be there. He hadn’t begged, but he’d basically said if F’drel went they could sit together. Which would at least mean some random other rider was less likely to sit next to him and try to get friendly.
Miri had insisted they head to Telgar as soon as she got the news the eggs were hatching, though F’drel had dawdled long enough to pack some snacks and a blanket. It was late, and the Hatching would likely last until much later, and wasn’t it colder in Telgar? Best to have it just in case.
Even with F’drel’s procrastinating, they still got there plenty early, and Miri easily found a good spot to watch from. She didn’t see Edath yet, but there was enough room next to her if he wanted to join when the blue pair arrived. There were a few other dragons she liked around though, and she happily sent them all greetings, then started watching the lightly rocking eggs excitedly. She was brought out of her absorption with the eggs when Aveleth arrived and called out to her. The blue got an enthusiastic trill in greeting, and Halomirth swiveled her head to look at him, absolutely delighted when he continued to chat with her. Aveleth was just so nice and Miri liked him a whole lot.
F’drel looked up at the increased intensity in Halomirth’s emotions, and noticed Z’ia looking at him. Immediately F’drel looked away, not wanting to give the bluerider the impression he was allowed to come over and visit. Their whole first meeting, if it could be called that, had deeply unsettled F’drel, even if the bluerider hadn’t really done anything to him — though F’drel was convinced that statement needed a ‘yet’ at the end. Fucking blueriders. Grumbling to himself F’drel leaned back more solidly into Halomirth, settling in to wait for the Hatching to begin proper and hide from overly inquisitive blueriders.
