Rhaedalyn was beyond excited that she was finally able to attend a Hatching again that wasn't at Fort. It felt like a lifetime had passed since she was able to do anything outside of the Weyr until recently when she told R'nya she wanted to see the Ista island residents and injured riders after the fire. If her dragon wasn't Sands bound, then she herself had been pregnant and unable to go between. After she had given birth, R'nya still treated her as fragile and had a Healer back him up so she continued to stay put a couple of months more until she finally put her foot down that she was attending Telgar's Hatching. Of course Aradissicath had recently flown so she was grounded once more but there were other ways to get around. Xyreith could take them or she could ask one of the sweet blueriders Madiquel was friends with.
Naturally she asked the young girl to come with her, wanting her to see her friends whenever she could. Rhaedalyn was a bit hesitant at first when the idea came to her, not only because Madiquel was so good with her children that would stay at Fort, but because the poor dear had been at Ista's grisly Hatching. She'd worried about the affect that had on the girl but it seemed to make Madiquel more determined to help others and become a Healer. It was why she invited her along in the end, not wanting to coddle the budding young woman more than her father already did.
With Quinvalis also Standing in Telgar, Rhaedalyn had to leave her brood in the creche, something she rarely did thanks to the flexibility of her station and the helping hands of the young man and Madiquel. She didn't let that ruin her good mood as she passed them over and kissed them all good bye; there was a Hatching to get to! Rhaedalyn loved baby dragons and sometimes wished Aradissicath took to the sky more regularly so they would have more of their own, but once a turn was more than enough for her and the dragon's occasional mood swings.
By the time they landed in Telgar, Rhaedalyn worried that perhaps they had taken too long getting the girls ready and out the door, especially when she saw the large crowd already assembled. There was no activity other than Candidates milling about on the Sands, though, so she relaxed and kissed R'nya before he took off again to pick up Quinvalis' mother and sister. He was such a good man! She pointed Madiquel over to the reserved seating for Weyrleaders and Lords. Sometimes she preferred sitting with friends but with the stands filling up, she decided to go for the easy seating. "Go ahead and greet any friends, if you like. You can come join me after," she added when they got to the seats. She wanted Madiquel to know she was definitely invited to stay with her and where their seats were, but she was free to wander if she wanted.
"I see Quinvalis across the way. Oh, and there's T'ryn! He looks so nervous. I remember Dissi's first clutch and how my stomach churned. Mulrissa seems to be doing well, though." She liked the other goldrider, finding her easy to talk with and surprisingly Aradissicath didn't mind Bedith. But as her dragon pointed out, if they weren't rude and trying to take her Sands, then she didn't have issues with other golds. But poor T'ryn. She could tell he was excited and nervous and wished she could relay some advice to him from her own time out there, but she suspected he had been given enough from friends and his father. She smiled when she found R'nd sitting not too far away and how happy and proud he looked. That was a good family and she was happy she could call R'nd a friend. Oh, speaking of that, she looked around for T'bia, the other bluerider she absolutely adored, and smiled when she found him. He didn't see her but she knew where he was and hoped to catch him for a quick chat afterward. It'd been so long since they last spoke!
As she was settling back in her chair, a glimpse of familiar blue caught her eye and she gasped when she saw Aveleth. The sweetest dragon... bonded to the worst man. She didn't want to see him but Z'ia was sitting on Aveleth's leg so it was hard not to see the mess of curls. She knew the papers he held would be bets placed on the Hatching. D'hys said they both used to do it at Katila and Telgar as something to keep the boredom away but that he didn't keep it up after Fort and Ista opened. She quickly looked away before he saw her looking at him and focused on the eggs. She wasn't going to let his presence ruin her evening out!
