He was just finishing up dinner when the humming started, and Misharan grinned in excitement. Finally, a Hatching he’d actually be full awake for — seriously, what did dragonets like so much about too-fucking-early in the morning? As much as he wanted to rush right off to get ready, Misha figured it was better to finish eating and maybe grab a few extra snacks to bring with instead of dashing off immediately. Hatchings could be so very long, and there were forty-something eggs this time. What if it took all night and he was starving but couldn’t leave the Sands for fear of missing an egg hatching? Nope, Misharan wasn’t taking any chances on food tonight, so he stayed where he was.
Just as he was putting his dishes with the other used dishes to be cleaned, he saw Mylorah heading over. Misha grinned at her, knowing she shared some of his excitement about Hatchings. He laughed when she held out the brush and immediately took it, agreeing to do something reasonably simple now and something fancier later. He was thinking one of those braids that started at the crown instead of the back of the head. But that was for later. For the moment, it was something reasonably quick to keep it out of the way — why were they supposed to keep their hair out of the way for Hatchings again? Misha had never paid attention to the why, since it didn’t apply to him.
Mylorah gave him a hug before heading off for the rest of the gold Candidates that Misha eagerly returned. He hated that they separated out the girls at Telgar, it meant he couldn’t spend the waiting time chatting with Mylo and some of his other female friends. Clearly, the rules were made to thwart him personally. Whatever, he had friends among the male Candidates too, it’s just Mylo was his best friend and it sucked he couldn't Stand next to her.
Of course, of his male friends, Kordiavis wasn’t Standing with him either. Not that he could blame Kordiavis for having a preference about where he Impressed, even if he didn’t share it. It just meant another of his friends wasn’t standing with him. As consolation, however, Misharan noticed Kordiavis in the stands; it looked like Mylorah had convinced T’ryn to bring him after all! Misha waved excitedly at his friend, trying to catch his attention. He beamed when Kordi noticed him and couldn’t resist blowing the other Candidate a kiss and winking at him. Maybe he’d stay for the celebration afterward and he could hang out with both Kordi and Mylo. That would be such fun.
Still, no point in pining after good friends he couldn’t hang out with when there were plenty of decent friends he could hang out with on the Sands with him, and Misharan moved to join a small clump of Candidates who were having a hushed conversation about what they hoped a dragon they Impressed might be like.
