Hello loves! While I haven't been writing, I have been working on updating some issues that have been hanging around on the layout! The Character change box is now at the bottom of the page, beside the up/down arrows! Green and Gold dragon flight dates have been shifted to the bottom of the page, where the (useless!) discord widget was located. Where the dragon flights were in the header, is now replaced by a Monthly Event box! This will be updated at the start of each month, with a fun mini-event you can take part in, if you want to! Mylorah had been sitting with some of the newer Candidates that didn’t have many, if any, Hatchings to their name and seemed to be getting antsy. Everyone knew that this clutch was a few days beyond the expected normal hatching timeframe and she was reassuring them that it wasn’t that unusual for this to happen and that the dragonets were fine. Honestly, she hoped it meant it was a lethargic group and there wouldn’t be quite as many mauled Candidates this time around. Her stomach still tightened when she thought about the poor girls that died, and A’tay’s chomped on hand, and how she stared down the wild brown that had chosen sweet S’oll to be his bonded. She was lucky she hadn’t ended up another victim of his with the attitude she had thrown his way.
She was answering some more of their basic questions about Hatchings and Weyr life in general when the dragons started humming. “Well, boys, you’re in luck. You’re about to see what a Hatching is all about first hand,” she grinned and giggled when the confusion turned into fear when they realised it was time to stand before wobbling eggs with hungry dragons springing from them. “You have time!” She called after them when they took off sprinting to prepare.
Mylorah figured there was no rush and was proved right when the order came to be ready in an hour and to take the time to eat and bathe. She had already done both recently and didn’t feel like being a part of the rush and crowding into one of the pools with so many people filled with nervous energy. Instead, she grabbed her hairbrush and some ribbons and made good on the threat that she would make Misharan do it up for her. Of course she meant for the celebration dinner later –which he could redo then in something way more fun and elaborate—but he seemed okay with the idea of doing it for the actual event as well.
A peek inside the dining cavern found Misharan just putting away his dishes and she smiled at the luck she was having. She’d almost started with his room and then would have moved on to the usual social haunts of his but since everyone was still coming and going for the tail end of dinner, she decided it wouldn’t hurt to start there. It didn’t take her long to convince to do her hair; it only took a smile and holding out her brush, honestly. Since they had to keep it fairly simple, her hair ended up in a braided bun that earned her friend a hug and promise that she would be watching and cheering him on from the silly sideline she’d be kept at before they parted ways to finish getting ready.
Mylorah was still grumbling internally about how the women would be kept together in a group further back, away from the eggs and boys when she changed into her robe. She was surprised the stuffy old guys hadn’t come up with the idea to make the gold dragons push the cherished golden egg to the other end of the Sands so the girls could stand vigil around it and as far from the rest of the clutch as they could. No doubt if they could come up with a way, they’d move the egg and girls to the other end of the Weyr to ensure fighter dragons didn’t dare sniff in their direction. She supposed she should be happy with the sideline, though. It meant she could still see what was happening and cheer for her friends.
When she arrived at the Sands a few minutes before the deadline given to them, Mylorah shuffled along with the other female Candidates to their little corner of the world and positioned herself where she could see the eggs, but also T’ryn. She wanted to run over and give him a hug and remind him to breathe but knew that would be frowned upon. So she waited until he looked in her direction, smiled, and waved. When he waved back, she pointed at her smile and then him. She laughed at his moment of confusion and then he smiled and nodded. He got the hint; remember to smile and enjoy the moment. She knew Syrendryth would continue to win Flights in the future but it might not be for a while and this was the first one! They should enjoy it.
