It was strange, he thought, not for the first time. He never imagined this was how his life would turn out. He had studied hard all through his youth to help on the family farm and show they wouldn’t struggle with his dad having passed away. He knew the ins and outs of breeding racers and could even deliver the foal or tend to any wounds as he really enjoyed the veterinarian courses that taught more along the lines of healing.
But life hardly went the way it was planned to go. While he had been pretty much on course for his perfect life of raising horses and living on the farm forever, maybe one day settling down with a cute girl after he was done playing with all the cute girls, he was Searched and given the chance to live with dragons and possibly even have one of his own.
He had always thought horses were the most majestic animal; until he met a dragon. They were beautiful and mysterious in their own way. The desire to know more about them and the child within him that grew up on tales of dragons and knowing his eldest brother he had never met was likely a dragonrider if he still lived was enough for Narinoa to give up everything he knew for the unknown. He kind of blamed his years of being the perfect bookworm and avoiding all sorts of fun as his need for something new and adventurous when it was presented.
He had yet to Impress but he’d been told that was normal and he had a lot of time still. Luckily, the gold population was steadily increasing so more clutches were beginning to happen with each passing year as the young dragons matured. It was why he found himself currently in Telgar Weyr waiting to be set free upon their latest clutch to touch and mingle with the eggs. It was an interesting ritual, one that still fascinated him even a year after being Searched and Standing for multiple Hatchings.
Having lived in a Weyr for a year now, Narinoa knew there was a lot more to the Weyrs than Holders would think –like they weren’t always having orgies in public; that was usually reserved for closed doors-- and he worked just as hard on a daily basis here as he did on the family farm. Truthfully, he may have worked harder now to show everyone he was committed and that his being Searched wasn’t a mistake.
That being said, he was finding more time to have fun as well. He had definitely let loose in the sexual department, finding he enjoyed it with both genders and liked exploring the Weyrs and areas when he could. Touchings were kind of a combination of working hard and fun times, which always left Narinoa focused on the task but with a large smile on his face. It was interesting to have a small connection with a being that hadn’t even cracked its shell yet and even the cranky dragons still made him walk away with a feeling of jubilation.
So as he approached one of the smaller eggs that made him think of when he picked out Pip’s egg from the firelizard clutch, Narinoa was smiling and ready to greet as many of the dragonets as he could in the small amount of time.
Liar, please!
