M’dox saying he liked listening to T’bia babble endlessly filled the bluerider with warm feelings that blossomed up through his belly and made him feel special; when it was followed up with a soft kiss, T’bia responded eagerly and affectionately, one hand sliding into M’dox’s hair, fingers splayed and enjoying as much the way his friends dark locks tangled around his fingers as he did the gentle kiss and the deliciously familiar taste of his friend. Was that weird? T’bia blinked owlishly as M’dox pulled back, sort of feeling like his friend might have heard his thoughts, even though he knew that was pretty ridiculous.
T’bia shifted just slightly when M’dox pressed their heads together, smiling very softly at the brownrider, but making himself just that little bit more comfortable. T’bia was very careful not to tug on M’dox’s hair, since his hand was still tangled in it, and he didn’t really want to remove it. He decided he was rather obsessed with the way it felt, all soft and silky, and it smelled nice – what did he use to wash it? And T’bia wondered idly if M’dox would let him play with it more. T’bia used to do his little sisters’ hair for them, but there was something more special about M’dox’s.
T’bia might have interrupted M’dox to tell him that Jycenth would like to be counted as a friend, or that he was wrong and T’bia was definitely broken, but he was spectacularly distracted by the way his friend was licking his lips as he considered what to say next, and T’bia didn’t even realise he was staring at M’dox’s lips until they started moving and he realised his friend was talking again. A flush crept up his cheeks, and he slowly lifted his gaze to meet M’dox’s again.
Honestly, T’bia didn’t really believe a lot of what M’dox was saying, but he believed that M’dox believed it, so even though T’bia thought his friend was wrong about him, he at least knew that M’dox felt differently, and it wasn’t like their differing opinions was a bad thing! T’bia found he really appreciated knowing that his friend thought he was amazing, and T’bia honestly thought M’dox was pretty amazing too, but he kind of felt like if he said that to the brownrider now, it might come across as quite as sincere because M’dox had said it first, and T’bia didn’t want M’dox to just think he was echoing him. It wasn’t like that at all! M’dox was so many wonderful things to T’bia and he didn’t even know where to start to express them!
Honestly, how did people even do friendships!?
T’bia’s entire brain process came to a grinding halt when M’dox said he loved him, though, and T’bia stared blankly. T’bia couldn’t remember the last time someone had said they love him, and especially not that they love him for being him. He knew, of course, that his father loved him – they had a strong relationship and T’bia had always been able to turn to his father, long before he had Jycenth to help him – and he knew his sisters adored him. Once upon a time, T’bia would have said his younger brother loved him, but who knew these days? He hadn’t seen him in so long.
T’bia felt a shiver of coldness sweep over him, as he thought about how very long it had been since his mother had said she loved him.
How long had it been since she’d even spoken to him?
Jycenth stepped in, brushing those thoughts away and bringing M’dox’s gentle but intense words forward again, and T’bia blinked, a little shudder running through him as he looked down at the head pressed against his chest, face hidden. T’bia blinked again, and then he gave a soft, joyful laugh and carefully squeezed M’dox as tightly as he could without hurting the brownrider. He held him for a few moments, before pushing his friend away from him and back against the bed, T’bia sprawling half on top of M’dox as he claimed the brownrider’s lips in a fierce kiss, putting every emotion he could into the action, desperate and determined.
Breaking the kiss, but only because if he didn’t T’bia thought he might die from lack of good oxygen, T’bia leaned back just enough to let them breathe; he could still feel M’dox’s lips against his own, and the warm pants of his breath. T’bia really wanted to tell M’dox he loved him, too – because he was pretty sure he did! – but he was scared, because… because… T’bia didn’t know why he was suddenly scared, all he knew was whole body was frozen up on the inside and he could get those little (but so powerful!) words to tumble past his lips… words were usually so happy to just jump for freedom from his mouth. He didn’t understand!
T’bia stared down at M’dox, his absolutely radiant joy slowly fading into an expression of increasing distress as the words he wanted to say just would not shake loose. Tears pricked at his eyes and T’bia sat up suddenly, his expression distraught as he failed to voice any words at all, mouth moving but nothing coming forth. Had he kissed his voice away?! Jycenth’s vocal rumble of amusement at that thought shook T’bia back to reality, just long enough for the bluerider to give a half-sob, half-laugh and launch himself back at M’dox, almost bashing their heads together as he unintentionally used his weight to press the brownrider back into the bed.
Breaking a second, fierce kiss, T’bia pulled back, eyes bright once more and lips still lingering against M’dox’s. “You stole my voice,” he said softly, gentle amusement tinged in each word. “I love you, too,” T’bia said softly, the words barely even audible. Then again, fiercely and with resounding joy, moments before pressing another kiss to M’dox’s lips.
