T'ryn cringed when he realised he had said the wrong thing. Again. What else was new? In his efforts to make everyone happy and avoid Z'rin from getting dumped because of him or making sure N'mor didn't regret his decision in a day or a month, he had overlooked the possibility that N'mor would hurt now because he had been rejected. He flinched when the rejection was tossed back in his face and nodded at the acceptance that he had screwed up and likely lost any chance with N'mor in the future. It's what he deserved.
Truthfully, he felt N'mor would be better off with him as only a friend anyway. T'ryn knew he was broken in some way and feared N'mor figuring that out. Casa hadn't been happy with him and ended up with strangers in a storage room to get what she wanted. He still didn't believe her when she said he was too good for her. He wasn't good enough for her! He wouldn't be good enough for N'mor either. He'd already proven that the night they fought. He was afraid that getting into a serious relationship would highlight his faults and ruin the friendship that they originally had. It was still weird to see Casa, after all. He really enjoyed her company and the chats they had before a kiss changed everything and started to make them awkward around each other. He was still getting over how it still sometimes hurt to know she was sleeping with pretty much everyone and getting what she needed from them when he couldn't provide it but he was almost to the point where he could spend more than ten minutes around her without hating himself and excusing himself from their conversation.
He decided he blamed sex for all of his issues. The Flight had made him awkward around Mulrissa but he felt he did well that morning visiting her on the Sands so that was a shimmering beacon of hope. But sex with N'mor had led to a massive fight. Sex with Casa had led to them breaking up. He'd rather just have his friends and never have sex again at this point. Which made him even more broken than he thought! He was a teenage weyrbred male with R'nd as his dad! He was pathetic. Maybe he should just swing to the other end of the spectrum and just sleep with everyone as well. No emotional attachments, just sex. But he knew he couldn't do that either.
"Friends," he finally whispered, well aware that his eyes were starting to water and not sure whether it was due to happiness at what he was getting back or sadness at what he let slip away a second time. He knew he could have changed his mind and kept N'mor for his own with only a single sentence but fear stayed his tongue. It didn't stay his arms from pulling N'mor in for a hug and holding on tight, though. He should better explain what he was feeling but it would likely come out a mess that wasn't understood either or he'd earn pity for it and he didn't want that either. It was better to leave things how they were now that he had his best friend back. Intimacy wasn't needed for what they had and he knew, thanks to Mylorah's comments over the years, that mated couples wished they had what he had with N'mor.
