Madiquel’s attention to the girls and the obvious love she had for them were why Rhaedalyn liked the young woman so much. Well, she was also a genuinely lovely woman as well and Rhaedalyn enjoyed her company without ulterior motives but she was happy to see someone that didn’t mind spending time or attention on the children. For all of D’hys’ kindness and assistance, he rarely paid a glance to the children and seemed to force himself to acknowledge them when they were pestering him too much to go unseen. But she knew not everyone was meant to be a parent or handle children for more than a few minutes at a time so she never held it against him.
“You would be useful no matter where you were and I would miss you dearly when you eventually leave the nest, so to speak,” Rhaedalyn never liked to lie and thought she was terrible at it anyway, so speaking the truth to Madiquel always came easily and she smiled as she spoke, though she was somewhat suspicious as to why baby-sitting seemed the more important task at the moment. Was she afraid of her father? Most people were, truthfully, but Jajojin doted on Madiquel and she never seemed to fear him. Perhaps the doting was why. She knew he panicked when it was time for her to mount a dragon and how much it had bothered him when she was in Ista Weyr for a few weeks. Oh! That had to be it. She was torn between wanting something and keeping her father happy and comforted.
“I’d really like it if you could come. I imagine a certain young bronzerider would be happy to see you and your mind would be at peace if you saw him in person.” It didn’t take much to figure out who Madiquel was always waiting on replies from. Rhaedalyn was getting to know Shadow very well, for one thing, and R’nya had told her all about that Hatching and Madiquel’s interest in A’tay. That actually gave her an idea since Jajojin likely wouldn’t go for having his daughter near the fire sites no matter how much Rhaedalyn asked him to let her come along.
“You could then spend some time visiting the wounded at the Weyr while I did the boring official business things. I think your father would be proud of you lending a hand like that and it would be good practice for the Healer Hall.” Rhaedalyn had never been great with tending injuries and didn’t think she’d ever have a talent for healing but she admired Madiquel for her decision to help people and hoped R’nya was making progress with the Master Healer on letting the girl in.
