“Nah, but I do, right?” R’vi teased softly as he held Indivara close. “You’ll be keeping me out of trouble if I stay a bit.” Probably not true since he’d find new ways of getting into trouble. Like trying to peek at V’ler’s secret notes about songs or gossip or whatever it was he always seemed to be jotting down when given a chance. Now that he had had that thought, R’vi was seriously contemplating it just to see the look on V’ler’s face when he returned. Maybe they could get the dragons in on a prank where they told him when the other bluerider returned so R’vi could run over to the desk and pretend to poke through papers while Indivara pretended to be asleep to further add to it. A wicked grin started tugging at the corners of his mouth but he didn’t voice his idea, yet, especially when Indivara started babbling about the baby.
He was kind of surprised that she was giving this child up as well. With Varlea, Indivara was still young, not in a steady place with the relationship or in general thanks to the constant upheaval at Katila. She was settled now with V’ler and he didn’t do much so he could raise the kid while Indivara raised other kids into becoming proper dragonriders. Then again, it was V’ler and Indivara and neither really seemed to have much interest in kids—not that he was one to talk. R’vi had dodged someone trying to foist a kid on him before and had Tala mention her kid was his but she was fine without his help. Maybe one day they would all be a bit more comfortable around tiny humans. For now, he was way too self-absorbed but at least he knew that.
“Like pregnancy will slow you down. I can’t think of anything that would,” R’vi complimented his friend, knowing that she was like them all and had her fragile moments but she was resilient and never stayed down for long. But he did worry about the actual birthing. Indivara was tiny and was constantly ill when younger and the first pregnancy had been hard on her. If Quennell thought she could handle another one, R’vi knew he should believe the wizened old Healer but it was still hard. He wouldn’t voice that concern though, knowing Indivara well enough to know she’d already worried about it herself and would smack him for doubting her.
“How about I refill our drinks and we go lounge with the dragons for a while?” It was partly a ploy to make sure she got some fresh air to ensure she really was feeling better after fainting but also an innocent afternoon of relaxing with the dragons, maybe napping in the sunlight. Of course it ruined his plan to prank V’ler but maybe they’d move back in by then or he’d just have to remember to do it on another visit.
