T’bia cringed when he half heard, half felt, M’dox shifting positions. He didn’t think M’dox would hurt him, but T’bia had been beaten up too often over too many years for the things that came out of his mouth to be comfortable with not expecting anything as a response. Some people liked the physical response, and some people just said really mean things back, and while T’bia knew M’dox wasn’t the type to do either of those (he knew it!) it was still so hard not to look up in shock when all the brownrider did was rub his arm reassuringly. But that’s what T’bia did, peering up and between his fingers with wide, cautious eyes and timid movements.
“I didn’t mean to imply,” T’bia said meekly. It wasn’t even that he’d offered for them to bathe together, so much as adding it to going back to M’dox’s weyr afterwards. That seemed so … well, it seemed to imply he though that things were going to go places that clearly neither of them were prepared to go; yet? “R’nd and I used to take baths, and we’d talk,” he whispered, eyes wide as he peered up at M’dox from his hunched position, trying to explain. There had been several times when he and the other bluerider had found nice hot springs to soak in while T’bia peppered his mentor with questions and sought answers to everything and anything. It seemed a good place to him for talking!
“Just talk!” he added suddenly and empathically, because everyone knew what R’nd had been like before B’jin and while T’bia had crushed – hard – on the other bluerider, nothing like that had ever happened. Even if T’bia had desperately at least wanted to kiss R’nd. Maybe he still did, a little bit. He thought it would be a nice way to say ‘thank you’ to R’nd for everything he’d done for T’bia, and T’bia knew R’nd would understand that, because that had been one of their topics of choice, once upon a time.
Taking a deep breath, T’bia finally unfolded himself and stood up a little, though he was still a bit pink in the face. “That would be nice,” he said softly, though he wasn’t sure if he was talking about their current plan of attack, or the prospect of bathing together in the future. Either way, T’bia smiled gently as he stepped back into M’dox’s personal space, and lifted one hand to cup his friend’s face, kissing him – gentle and lingering – on the lips. He broke the kiss just moments before the woman of earlier came tottering back in, and T’bia reluctantly stepped away a bit from M’dox, his hand falling away slowly.
With their privacy once more taking a trip between, T’bia smiled warmly at M’dox before going to get his dropped laundry basket and he claimed a tub close to his friend, quickly sorting his clothing for the least number of loads, without risking anything becoming ruined. As they worked, T’bia filled most of the silence talking cheerfully about his little sisters – currently nine and eleven – and the antics they were getting up to, and how the eldest was demanding she be fostered to a Lord and Lady in Telgar, like her friend Amorandii had been, while the youngest was absolutely determined that she would become a bluerider like Indivara. It was at that point that T’bia had lowered his voice, looked around, and whispered against M’dox’s ear that his little sister wasn’t nearly as scary as Indivara was!
