Oh, good! Halomirth cheered, very pleased that she had a new friend. I’m so glad! The fact that the woman may be afraid of her had not occurred to the green, unused to Holders and there lack of knowledge about dragons. What had worried her was that Kelikki would hate her. She’d gotten an idea that F’drel’s family may be upset with her and angry with her for taking him away, likely her way of interpreting F’drel’s own worries about his siblings not being pleased to see him and his guilt over leaving them. Kelikki agreeing to be her friend immediately quelled those fears, and Halomirth became even more excited about everything.
When Kelikki approached for a hug, F’drel hesitated for barely a heartbeat. Not because he didn’t want to hug her — he did, he very dearly did — but because even now he still worried how she truly felt about him. Refusing her hug would not improve her disposition if she were upset with him, and he really did want to hug her again after all this time, so F’drel reached out to her and stepped forward, circling his arms around her and holding her close. Their height difference was enough that he could rest his chin on the top of her head, which he’d only been able to do in the last few months he’d been in Nabol. For most of his life, Kelikki had been taller, and he still wasn’t used to the head difference between them now. She’d always seemed so tall to him, his strong, determined older sister who would always do her best for them.
“It has.” He said into her hair, trying very carefully to keep his voice level and tears from starting. “Far too long. I’m so sorry, Kikki.”
