Like V’ler, and for many of the same reasons, Indivara had no desire to be a full time parent. She was still too obsessed with herself and her own life to be interested in the constant care and needs that would come with having a child under her care twenty-four-seven. She’d gotten enough of that when Venseth hatched, thank you very much, and he had been a lot more self-sufficient than a child would ever be. Just taking care of Varlea for the required six months had been a lot more involved than Indivara had prepared for, and she certainly wasn’t looking to do that for full time.
Too much hard work, primarily, but Indivara was also terrified of everything being a fulltime mother entailed. It was easy to pass off her shitty relationship with Varlea, since she rarely saw the child. But she didn’t like the idea of having a crappy relationship with a child she lived with. Better to just get rid of the thing early and not risk a bad relationship where there was supposed to be a good one. You’re rambling, Venseth input, brushing away her unhappy thoughts. I believe you just missed the message V’ler sent, he added, amused.
“No,” Indivara answered V’ler, giving him a dry look. She wouldn’t be content until the firelizard appeared with Rhaedalyn gushing about how much she wanted the unborn child. She had better want the damned thing! Puffing out a breath, Indivara looped her arms around V’ler’s neck and nuzzled the side of his neck, standing behind his chair. “What were you working on?” She asked, curious but not really so invested that he couldn’t be vague with his reply. As a rule, Indivara didn’t stick her nose into V’ler’s work, letting him have at least that much privacy to himself. Partially, she felt she owed him that much, since she’d inserted herself into every other aspect of his life, mostly, though, she heard B’jin gush enough about Harper shit that she was usually sick of it.
“You should write little stories for Rhaedalyn’s brats,” she added, glancing sideways at V’ler with a sly little smile. “I can draw the pictures.” Her clearly teasing tone indicated she had more than a small idea of how thrilled V’ler would be with sharing his desk space with Indivara and her crude drawing abilities. Artistry was not in Indivara’s veins.
