As a general rule, M’dox preferred to get meals a little offset from the most popular times. Riquarth kept encouraging him to eat at more ‘normal’ times, get to know more people, but the dragon hadn’t convinced him to change his ways.
Yet. Riquarth insisted. M’dox smiled slightly. His brown had so much faith in him. M’dox sometimes worried the faith was misplaced and he’d disappoint Riquarth someday, but Riquarth always reassured him he never would.
So, considering M’dox had expressly been heading towards the dining hall in order to avoid running into people, he was intensely startled when he was approached by Indivara of all people. Moments later, he was blinking at the tiny egg that had been shoved in his hands. M’dox knew what firelizard eggs looked like, of course. He’d lived among dragonmen long enough. However, he’d never actually had one himself. Despite most Candidates getting them, he’d been a Candidate less than a year. There’d been a clutch set to hatch in a week when he’d Impressed Riquarth, and at that point they figured he didn’t need the distraction from a ‘real’ dragon. But now…
“Do I need to keep it in sand?” M’dox blurted out, still staring at the egg. Having never actually hatched one, he was a bit fuzzy on the details of how to go about doing so. He flinched back as soon as he said it. Indivara’s temper was legendary. M’dox had managed to avoid it so far, but here he was asking her a stupid (in her eyes, almost certainly) question when she was stomping around as if the floor itself had offended her.
“Sorry.” He mumbled, clutching the egg to his chest.
