Ayontay blushed upon receiving the hug and glanced toward Jajojin who was passing by, likely back to his room. He couldn’t tell what the man was thinking. He worried he was about to see angry dad mode come out but he was also convinced he saw a hint of a smile. Either way, Ayontay decided to keep his hands firmly on the gift and not make any sudden movements that looked like he was going in for another hug or anything else. Madiquel’s dad really made him nervous sometimes!
“I’ve been working on my wood carvings and I finished something for you and I couldn’t wait to bring them by,” he probably should have waited though. It wasn’t really late but it was getting there and he hadn’t fully thought through whether or not Madiquel would have plans of her own or if her father would want guests staying late into the evening. He was willing to risk it, even if he just had a chance to pass the boards to her and leave.
“I hope you like them!” He held out the two pieces of wood he had lovingly carved for her to take. One was her name with a simple flower beside it. Now that he looked at it again, he found the flower to be ugly and decided he should have either tried painting it on or not attempted it at all. But he liked the colours he had picked to paint that piece in, at least. The other piece was a little larger since he decided to get wordy and pretend he was a Harper that could write beautiful poetry. He knew Madiquel liked such things and he was kind of proud it. ‘With brave wings, she flies’ seemed like something R’nd would have said to a lady back in the days pre-B’jin and Ayontay felt it summed his friend up well. She was so strong and brave after all she went through with the landslide, and even if she never Impressed a dragon of her own, Ayontay saw her soaring high.
