Quilriana smiled and patted R’nya lightly on a cheek. He was Weyr bred and a bronzerider so of course he viewed certain differently than most men she knew. It was one of the reasons she found him so attractive and enjoyed their hours of conversations of Weyr life and politics to more mundane topics. She wasn’t going to point out that Rhaedalyn likely wouldn’t be as open to sharing as she was and that it would likely hurt her deeper than R’nya might expect if he thought about it at all. Quilriana wasn’t an expert on the goldrider but felt like she had a good grasp on how things would play out from what R’nya had shared over the years and the few meetings they had had where she observed the younger woman in action.
Letting the matter drop without another word, Quilriana danced out of R’nya’s hold when she heard her son’s quick steps racing down the stairs. She didn’t mind him seeing them together but she didn’t want to dampen his excitement for being Searched by having him eye roll at the affection. “I know he will be and I’d be more worried if he wasn’t conflicted in such matters.” She hoped her son would make friends and want to run off and cause mischief with them at times and not sit alone in a quiet room and study all the time. He was a good kid and she wanted others to see it as well.
When Quinvalis came outside, Quilriana smiled, blinking away tears as she took him in with his jacket on and two bags that held all of his belongings. "I know, I know,” she held up a hand to stop the protests that she could see forming on lips, “let me have my last mom speech. Mind your manners and don't cause any trouble. Especially for your new Weyrleader." Quilriana hugged Quinvalis close and whispered again how much she loved him and how proud she was of him. She also secretly hoped the boy's need to fit in and share the juicy gossip he had on R'nya and his mistress wouldn't overwhelm him and lead him into trouble.
For a brief moment, Quilriana debated sending him to Telgar instead of Fort. Keep him closer to her and further away from the man she was sleeping with in secret. No, it was better to have R'nya looming over him, especially since Quinvalis looked up to the bronzerider. Besides, from what R'nya had told her about D'hys over the years, the bluerider would make sure her son wasn't saying anything he shouldn't or he'd be given a swift dealing with. Though D’hys had better be careful himself if he didn’t want to deal with the wrath of a vengeful mother.
“You two better be on your way before it gets too late. I can only imagine Xyreith’s opinion if that should happen and keep him from Aradissicath any longer.”
