M'dox nodded at T'bia's description of the dragonrider Plague. He hadn't experienced it himself, having neither been born or living in a Weyr, but he figured the illness that killed three of his siblings was a decent comparison. Being six turns at the time, he didn't remember it well, but he remembered how empty the house felt afterwards. He figured it was like that for the dragonriders, except on a much bigger scale. With the added dimensions of moving to a completely unknown area of the world and having to almost completely rebuild their lives and society.
"Thanks." He said, shaking off the thoughts about plagues as he dumped his first load of laundry in the empty tub. M'dox turned on the hot water pump, and started filling the tub slowly. He continued to watch T'bia out of the corner of his eye. The bluerider had seemed pleased he had come over to work next to him? That was rare. M'dox was unsure how to interpret the bright smile he was given. It felt nice to be on the receiving end of a smile like that, though - it didn't feel like the smile of someone who was smiling because they planned to hurt you, which was what M'dox was used to having aimed at him. Biting his lip, M'dox considered T'bia's question about leaving his family.
"It was... I'm not sure, it's hard to describe." He admitted, adding the soap sand and gently stirring it in. T'bia's earnest face and openness made M'dox want to be open too, despite the logical part of his brain saying it was a bad idea. His instincts, and Riquarth's gentle encouragement through their bond, won out over his logical caution. "I think it would have been worse if R'nd had come a year or two earlier." M'dox said, carefully stirring his laundry in the tub. "All my siblings had recently been married, and the younger two had moved out within the past three years. So I guess I was slowly being separated from my family anyway, so when R'nd took me to Katila, I didn't miss them as much as I expected. And I love all of them, but they..." he paused, considering his words. "I was sixteen, an adult, and I was going to be expected to follow in the steps of my siblings, marry a nice woman, have children, and have my own plot of a farm. I wasn't ready for that, and my family had started getting a bit. Pushy." M'dox shook his head and laughed a bit in self-deprication. "Riding away on a dragon was practically lifesaving at that point."
