The look Valerian received was vaguely accusing, as if demanding where the other Harper had been this entire time and why he was only coming to Erisi's side now. He was sure a few people were genuinely enjoying the Hatching, but Erisi was definitely not one of them. Shells, Valerian was probably even enjoying watching dragonets squawk about and terrorize young Candidates. Erisi, however, had no shame in dampening the man's mood with his own concerns (which were numerous, if he were to list them out). His anxiety levels were high, because while some people may think that today could be the start of a new life, Erisi saw today as a day that could end his old life. And he liked his old life, a lot. There had been nothing wrong with being a traveling Harper, picking up marks where he could by singing and playing music. That was the life for him, where he was free to make his own decisions, do as he pleased when he pleased. The scheduled and strict lifestyle for a dragonrider was hardly appearing to someone who enjoyed a certain amount of liberty with life.
"Actually, I did, and after all I've done for you, too." Valerian apparently was already working as a soothing effect for Erisi, since his tone was mildly more playful and indulgent than downright sour. He at least believed that Valerian cared enough about him to prevent him from being mauled to death, and there was a great deal of comfort in that knowledge. He didn't trust these creeling dragonets, and for good reasons too. Other Candidates were proving to be less lucky.
A very pissed off dragonet had hatched, and Erisi found the equivalent of the dragonet's anger in the time that he had been mad enough to punch I'shan. Erisi had a scare more than he was ready for as the angry hatchling dashed past him to a girl that had come up behind Kerrin. The creature latched onto a girl that was young enough to be considered a child, and while Erisi did not scream, his horror was apparent. There was a small desire to try and help the girl, but Erisi was the kind of person who only put a few select others before himself. For Indivara, no aid would come from Erisi. He was too scared and shocked to move from where his feet had sunk a little into the sand. Only when the dragonet relinquished its hold on the girl did Erisi make the obvious move to put Valerian between himself and where the dragonet had wandered off to claim its next victim.
"Shells," his hissed, waiting for someone more suited to dealing with heinous injuries to come help those who had fallen. It didn't surprise him that Lymsleia tried to help, she was the type of person to try, even when she could be of little aid. Erisi just had no idea what to do to begin with, and beyond that, the sight of so much blood was making his stomach churn. "Do they cancel Hatchings due to numerous casualties, because now I really don't want to be here." Erisi's gaze naturally tried to search out an escape route, any possible way that he could get himself off the Sands and away from bloodthirsty dragonets. "Faranth sharding wherry ass Hatchings," he groaned.
