The Sands were hot, but she had already decided that, long before. What surprised her was that after a moment, she didn't notice. A nose poked forth from a hole in the shell of an egg, then the rest of a body, and Jada felt her heart swell with a nameless emotion. Okay, not so nameless.
That was one bloody ugly lump of... something. She'd thought baby dragons were supposed to be glorious, but they were lanky and small, and possibly wet and slimy, with translucent wings that made her think of some kind of dragon-insect hybrid and massive eyes. They were lacking in anything remotely resembling grace, and they were coming fast. Luckily, as the first dragonet's eyes whirled rainbow and some girl almost collapsed on herself to get to it, it seemed that the mob of 'adorable' future kidnappers were not going to attack in force.
It seemed, to add insult to injury, that the egg Jada had fallen in love with, the Birds of a Feather egg, had chosen someone else as being their perfect match. Jada's pride was a little wounded, but she knew she'd get over it. Besides... Besides... Oh shard it all. That just wasn't fair! (Life wasn't fair, as she had discovered turns ago.)
She didn't recognize anyone off the top of her head, but she smiled to see the happiness that suffused the faces of each human as their little mutant found them.
Okay, maybe she wanted one of her own. (Desperately.) She'd get over it, though.
