Hello loves! While I haven't been writing, I have been working on updating some issues that have been hanging around on the layout! The Character change box is now at the bottom of the page, beside the up/down arrows! Green and Gold dragon flight dates have been shifted to the bottom of the page, where the (useless!) discord widget was located. Where the dragon flights were in the header, is now replaced by a Monthly Event box! This will be updated at the start of each month, with a fun mini-event you can take part in, if you want to! Please note, all Candidates are present by the time the dragons start hatching. G'rem will pick them up and carry them there if he must, they have no choice. Feel free to write that he's shooing them in via stick if you like!
Several of the eggs shook, responding to the deep hum from their clutch mother. As the sound built up and resonated throughout the Weyr, one or two began to shake even more violently. With a large shudder, cracks spidered down the Birds of a Feather egg, slightly obscuring the cream spot on the side of the shell. On the opposite side of the clutch, the Slow Journey egg was slowly rocking side to side, one large crack running vertically down in contrast to its stripes.
Once the riders and weyrfolk had gathered, crowded on the outsides of the hatching circuit, the humming intensified, welcoming the white-robed Candidates as they stood before the eggs. It had been going for near ten minutes now, with almost all the eggs having shaken and started to grow at least the tiniest of cracks. Pieces of grey shell had fallen and were gathering around the base of the Birds of a Feather egg, the dragon within creeling as it struggled against its confines. Eventually, the shell weakened enough to crumble to pieces, the Family To All Hatchling tumbling out. Squawking it wriggled in the sand, thoroughly coating itself, soothing the itch of newborn hide. Crooning it finally sat up, the colour of its hide disguised in the sand and the dimmed lights. In their rush to reach the hatchlings, nobody had thought to bring or turn glows on and nobody was going to leave to fetch them in case they missed something crucial. A hatching in the dark it was!
It didn't take long for the newly-hatched dragon to stumble forward, a tangle of wings and legs headed straight for the Candidates. Creeling again the hatchling latched onto the nearest one, claws catching and weighing down on Farlint's robes. A damp nose was shoved into his thigh, snuffling for a moment before it let go of his robes. Turning, it's eyes whirled rainbow, even in the dimness it was clear that the first Impression had been made. But who? Visltine cried out in shock, rushing forward to meet the hatchling. "Oruth, Oruth you're covered in sand!" She shouted, eagerly pulling her to the side where meat and glows were, revealing green hide beneath the sand.
Almost as if in reaction to the first Impression, three other eggs increased their rattling. Two were beside each other, close to where the remains of Oruth's egg, while the third was on the far side of the clutch. The Brighter Side Of Things egg shuddered violently, knocking repeatedly against the Tip of the Curiosity egg which was quivering. On the other side of the clutch the Slow Journey was rocking rhythmically, with smaller cracks spidering out from its main vertical one. The other two eggs were dropping fragments of shells, as if they were trying to take attention from the others, but it was a futile attempt. The Dancing Horizon Hatchling shook its head and unfurled its wings, stretching out from its sitting position amidst its shell. Crooning softly, it looked at itself, as if making sure that every part of it was there and functioning, clean of eggshell.
Shakily it tried to stand, its legs crumpling beneath itself. Barking in surprise it scrambled in the sand to try and get up again, eventually finding its feet, if somewhat unsteadily. Slowly it stepped forward, making sure with each step that it wouldn't slip and fall again. It took close to five minutes for the hatchling to make it's way to the closest edge of the Candidates which included Erisi and Kerrin, gently bumping and nosing at their hands and legs. There was no aggression in its movements, simply a quiet curiosity.
