He had just returned to his room after dinner when the humming had started, and Echlerov quickly changed and made his way to the hatching ground. At least it had come at a mostly convenient time, rather than early in the morning. It would have been miserable standing on the hot sands without any klah, and he was glad that it hadn't worked out like that.
It would be bad enough on its own.
He joined the group of candidates, finding a place of his own. He was excited, and nervous, knowing that there was so much that could happen, that would happen. The only thing that was really a given at one of these, or so he presumed, having been at one before, was that there would be baby dragons and impressions, the rest, was a bit more fluid.
He glanced around, looking at those who had already arrived. He saw Lymsleia, whom he waved at happily, and then Erisi. It seemed that the other boy still wasn't into being a candidates, but it was a little too late to poison him now. And anything else would be far too noticeable. Oh well. Things would work out. The other candidates merely got cheerful grins, though he didn't see Breccan among them. She would be along soon he was sure, and then, for the most part anyway, the people that he was hoping would impress would be there. He still didn't know where he stood on the whole thing, whether he wanted to impress or not, but he was doing his best to keep calm and think happy thoughts.
The dragons were the ones to choose, and if there was one for him, it would be there.
It would be bad enough on its own.
