D'ren watched stoically as the crowd started to disperse. He caught the inflections in B'jin's eyes and acknowledged them with an almost invisible nod. He felt bad for what he'd done to the greenrider, or in this case ordered to have done, but the longer he remained in his post, the more D'ren realized how wretched life could be. He was in a perpetually difficult position. He wanted to be a benevolent leader, but whenever he showed his naturally kind and paternal side, he was accused of being too soft. Too soft!
Sometimes, Weyr life was grim. As he stood and faced the crowd, his only regret was imposing it on the stolens. Dragonmen like B'jin had fewer excuses, though perhaps B'jin was yet again an exception. He had, after all, Impressed on accident. Nevertheless, a point had been made. The Weyr had been rife with scruffles and trouble-making lately. D'ren hoped this could at least cut down on it, though he wasn't so naive to think it would wipe it out completely. Even the best run Weyrs still had fights.
They'd think twice, though. How unfortunate.
He wasn't surprised when a voice called out to him. He was mildly surprised to see Erisi, though. D'ren smiled shallowly at the boy, fully expecting the candidate to void his second warning with whatever words flew out of his mouth.
Ah yes. There they were.
D'ren realized at once how old he was feeling. "Erisi, correct?" he asked, shifting to face the young man. "I'm going to ask you to mind your tone." He'd had just about enough of Erisi. Poor kid.
Ronarth sensed the distress and started to walk forward. Please don't... he whispered to Erisi.
