As Einin did her best to continue to seem proper and act as if nothing was wrong, R’nd regarded her with concern, trying his best to conceal it for the moment behind the glass of water he picked up and sipped at. Despite what she had said the day they met, R’nd wondered if the young lady truly was ready to make such a life changing move. She gave up everything she knew, every routine, every mannerism that was expected of her, and every habit that got her through the day to begin anew in an entirely different setting. He had been traditionally Searched before the Plague and he had been equally as excited to leave behind the life set out for him in exchange for something new. R’nd had never been fond of fishing or the seacraft and his Holder father always seemed a bit disappointed in him.
That seemed to end their similarities, however. R’nd was able to Stand for a clutch right away, though he didn’t Impress. That turned out to be an odd sort of blessing with the Plague sweeping through the population soon after that. His life had gone from the second son of a minor lord holder to a Candidate at Benden, then to a boy living in the forest of a strange new land within a year. The shock of how different the Weyr was from Hold never truly sank in for him, though he deeply understood the pain of missing his family.
“Einin, never be ashamed of what you say, do, or feel,” the glass of water was set down as R’nd tried his best to get across the point that he was there to be a friend and someone that could be trusted and relied upon. “Especially with me. You can come find me any time you want to talk or need a bit of time to decompress from the day.” He was about to offer the girl a trip home for a visit when she wanted it when movement caught his eye and R’nd glanced up to see someone approaching them.
It took a moment for him to make the connection of who it was with how concerned over Einin’s happiness he was, but once R’nd realized it was N’mor, he lost his train of thought and eyes widened. He wouldn’t call it a fear of the boy, but N’mor made him uncomfortable and left him convinced the young bronzerider’s stare was looking right into his soul. How N’mor was able to pull off such an intense gaze was beyond R’nd’s comprehension but he knew he didn’t like it though he had nothing against the boy. Although, the subtle implications behind his words about making Candidates feel welcomed was starting to tip the scale against him.
R’nd had a moment of panic when he heard N’mor had lost his sister but once the two dragons were mentioned, he relaxed once more, knowing neither would allow Amorandii to go missing or end up hurt. “You’re probably right about Larrikith. It probably also explains how pleased Ayyonth seems to be with himself,” the large blue dragon had taken a liking to some of the younger children back in Katila and liked when any of them came back to visit him for a bit.
R’nd frowned when his fork vanished and N’mor helped himself to the desserts. He should have grabbed a second plate’s worth of food with all the sharing that was suddenly happening. A somewhat sassy comment about helping himself was on his lips when R’nd remembered who was standing by him and the frown deepened further until manners finally made him introduce everyone.
“Einin, this is N’mor of bronze Rhezalth; B’jin’s son. He lives at Ista but likes to make unexpected visits. N’mor, this is Einin, and your assumption was correct; I recently Searched her.”
