Despite the day's end, life seemed to cling to the dining hall and kitchen. People filed past what remained of the last meal, each body an uncomfortable feeling of warmth as it jostled Einin out past the entrance. Once or twice, she caught the eye of a rider or unknown candidate, and the girl fought the urge to instinctively withdraw from the disapproval that her imagination conjured in their eyes. They knew she didn't belong here. Einin was sure of it. A breath caught awkwardly in her throat at the sound of her name however, and for a moment she was stuck with lungs inflated, brows drawing together in momentary concern for whatever she had done wrong this time, and a furious determination to not whimper in response. The first two were reactions that had happened before she could school her features into a more neutral expression, but by Faranth, the last was something she would not allow.
Except a soft and questioning croon did happen to make it beyond the loose curve of her lips. Einin racked her brain for the appropriate greeting, and more than that, a name to put with the man's face. Hazel eyes fell to the loops of crossing braids that would at least help her figure out the rider's rank, and a calmer understanding began to settle in with the gentle nature of his words; the ease in which he seemed to know her. Faces had always been easier for her to remember than names. It was mostly thanks to the turns spent with various shapes and angles, expressions and scars, paraded in front of her that she could pull the correct one from her memory now. The intent had once been for Einin to help the more forgetful of her siblings recall what they should have already known, but now it proved useful in a different manner, and she gave a small curtsy per habit with a gentle smile and inclination of her head.
"R-R'nd." she paused, stumbling over the oddity of an elided name for only a breath of a moment as it finally floated across consciousness and to the forefront of her mind. The searchrider should have been recognized immediately, and for that Einin chastised herself quietly in a moment of internal scolding. He had only spirited her away from an unfulfilling life to this wondrous place after all! Perhaps sarcasm was not the best tone to think in right now however, and as the girl clasped her hands in front of her demurely, she took a moment to consider his offer. The sweets and rolls did look delicious. It did not take long for their heady aroma to make her mouth water, or for the hunger to flourish and bloom in the way her eyes went from a simple regard to a raking desire over the plate; an expression that quickly was removed with a flutter of lashes and the upward tilt of her head to nod quietly at the man.
"Perhaps one..." even as she trailed off however, Einin knew that one could easily become two, and two could even more readily become a conversation. There was always talk about the searchriders, at least the nice ones, coming to check on the candidates they had found. The days had drawn on long and difficult though, and it had not been a far stretch for her to assume that once again she had been forgotten in her usual manner of blending into a background. Drawing attention to herself had never been Einin's style to begin with, and she supposed that R'nd finally recognizing one of his latest finds out of a crowd was a far better beginning to a conversation than one stemming from some sort of problem. "How have you been? And Ayyonth as well, of course." Funny how the dragon's name came to mind more easily than the man's. It was polite small talk however, the sort she would have said without a moment of hesitation or thought back at home. Those walks with other hold-girls or her sisters had been a means of keeping up appearances. At least this was out of genuine curiosity. It was a small difference, but a notable one where Einin was concerned.
