While they didn’t fight as much as they did upon first meeting each other, V’ler was still accustomed to Indivara’s outbursts and her desire to bicker just because they could. This, however, seemed different. She was genuinely upset that people were talking about Venseth and V’ler hesitated a moment to consider how to proceed. He understood the desire to defend one’s dragon given the bond that was shared but he also saw Venseth’s point of view. If Veeth said it didn’t bother him – and luckily he was a damned sweet dragon and no one seemed able to be mad at him or else V’ler would never hear the end of that lamenting – then it wouldn’t bother V’ler either. It was that simple.
But Indivara was anything but simple. None of his friends seemed to be the more he thought about it. No one could do things the easy way and had to dance around feelings and desires; but that just made things more interesting to watch unfold as an outside.
He was about to agree with Venseth on his hide being rather fetching with the green mixed in since any time he teased about the colouring it was done playfully when Indivara burst into tears. This was not something he was accustomed to and V’ler was close to echoing the blue dragons’ – as it chain reacted and caused Veeth to squeak as well – distress but he stayed his tongue. Veeth, for his part, nestled his head against Venseth’s with even Vex coming over to see how the large dragon was doing while Quill stayed on the desk observing Indivara.
V’ler realized he was gawking with his mouth hanging slightly open as he wondered what he was supposed to. He really wasn’t one to comfort someone, knowing full well that someone like R’nd would have already swooped in and had the situation under control. V’ler, however, managed to close his mouth and cautiously approach the crying woman before slowly sitting down beside her. Once he was there, instinct took over and he put his arms around Indivara to draw her in for a hug. He wasn’t a hugger and hated when those that were tried to hug him constantly but it seemed appropriate right then.
“There’s more than just comments about Venseth,” it wasn’t a question but a statement. He had been a Harper for too long to not notice such connections that led to their current moment in time. His Harper training had also opened him up a bit more to listening in on gossip so he had heard some of what was said about the bratty girl that rode a blue dragon. The fact that he did have some green in his hide had been a goldmine for some of the losers roaming around commenting on where a girl like Indivara should be if she had to be a dragonrider but there had been other whisperings. It was hard to avoid the fact that Veeth chased everything and everyone knew it and had opinions on it. The fact that his so-called mate’s dragon had yet to chase at all seemed to amuse people. If anything, he was talked about more than Indivara was in that area since Veeth’s habits and the fact he didn’t do anything to try and stop them made it seem like Indivara wasn’t enough for him.
But those comments weren’t usually the type to bother the girl he still held so there had to be more, though V’ler wasn’t that great of a Harper where he could read minds.
