Appearance
Hair: Straight black hair that is too long to be called clean and short but too short to be called a shag. It is, however, long enough to usually hide his eyebrows unless he’s brushed the bangs to the side. In his opinion, it’s just right.
Height: 5’10
General Appearance: A bit shorter than the average height and with a rather bland body that isn’t as toned as others around him, Kordiavis doesn’t exactly stick out. His baby face with smooth skin, pale lips that sometimes grace people with a genuine smile are what draw attention his way.
Dressing Style: Kordiavis prefers slightly more lavish clothing of soft materials, fine stitching, and perfectly sized for him. His preference for colours tends to run dark, seeing black as the easy go-to with white as a nice accent when it is needed. Even with growing up in Ista with the hot clime, one of his quirks is wearing a band of cloth tightly around his neck like a choker. Sometimes it has long ends resembling more of a scarf. He couldn’t tell you why he does it, just that he did it once and liked how it looked and that no one else did it so he continued doing so.
Personality
Kordiavis may come across as contradictory to some while others may simply think he’s crazy or has duo personalities.
For the most part, Kordiavis is quiet and seems withdrawn but he’s more than likely judging you and if you’re worth his time. He’s not huge on interacting with people and likes to be left alone as much as possible unless he decides otherwise. He likes his space and hates when someone tries to get into his personal bubble and pester him. This is borne from the way his mother treated him all his life. He’s both her joy and bane and depending on state of mind, she let him know where he stood with her. He finds it easier to avoid people and meaningful connections, though the odd person or two can break through his protective walls.
On the flip side of things, Kordiavis can have a silly side that can come as a shock to some if they only know the grumpy side that seems to hate everyone. The fun-loving, more outgoing young man shows up when he’s with his small and trusted group of friends or if he’s lacking sleep, which is more often the case. He gets a bit silly if he’s been up too long or didn’t get enough sleep the night before.
Habits/Mannerisms: Rolls his eyes when he’s had enough of someone talking, especially if they’re spouting nonsense. A sigh of disgust is more than likely to accompany it.
Opinions:.
Threadfall Theory: He has been raised to believe it will return and he doesn’t see why it can’t and won’t.
Stealing/Kidnapping: It didn’t affect him one way or another but he supposes it was a bad call and tarnished the reputation of dragonriders.
Weryrleader S'kef: He didn’t really see the man in action but doesn’t really like what he heard about the man in general.
Firelizards: Cute but he’s not sure he’d want one since he’s not sure how his mother would act around it.
Women's loss of honorifics: His mother was a goldrider and they never had honorifics so he doesn’t see why other female riders would. All or none.
Return North: Bittersweet. He had never seen a dragon before and only had his mother’s stories and ramblings to go off of. It was hard seeing a dragon for the first time knowing what the loss of one did to the rider but in the end, he’s happy they’re back.
Likes:
Sleep: Beds are warm and cozy and sleep makes everything better, including the disposition of some people.
Painting: When he was younger and afraid to speak because he might upset his mom, Kordiavis started painting to express himself. They started out as simple pictures but he’s grown more into abstract with the colours and patterns speaking more about the emotions he’s going through then any one defined item. It also helps keep him from triggering his mom like when he drew a dragon when little.
Reading: Solitary activities appeal to him and reading had the added benefit of transporting him to someone else’s life or fantastical places. It also helped keep him quiet and out of the way when needed or quietly hidden when he wanted to be left alone.
Dislikes:
Invasion of his Space: He’s not fond of being touched or bothered when he’s reading or enjoying his ‘me time’.
People touching his hair: If he dislikes people being in his space, he absolutely hates people messing with his hair. Yes, it’s soft, but you don’t need to touch it!
Pudding: It’s just weird. What sort of texture is that?
Strengths:
Creative: While mostly in the form of painting, Kordiavis also enjoys expressing himself through poems; though he always burns the paper afterwards lest someone find them.
Fearless: He does what he wants and doesn’t worry about the consequences whether it’s dark caves or talking back to someone larger than him.
Loyal: Despite the turmoil he’s suffered over the years and urges to run away, Kordiavis is loyal to his mother and defends her honour when someone speaks ill of her. If anyone else manages to break through his walls, they will find his loyalty extending to them as well.
Flaws:
Brutally Honest: If he doesn’t like you or your idea, you’ll know. He is a master of ‘are you stupid?’ faces.
Selfish: He’s done so much for or because of his mother over the years that he has learned to only help himself if given the choice. Now an adult, he has realized he has to live for himself, not others.
Cynical: He’s grown up learning that everyone has a horrible side and not everyone is acting in the best interests of others. He finds it hard to believe anyone is solely good without their own motives; even he has them now.

Background Story:
716 & Born: Alcynnia is dragonless and pregnant. She stays in Ista Weyr’s empty halls for months, giving birth to the son that kept her from dying with her dragon.
717-721 & 1-5: They’re relocated to Ista Hold when he’s still an infant and both mother and child receive some needed care. Kordiavis is raised by his mother on good days and random people on her bad days.
722 & 6: Still too young to fully grasp why his mother sometimes hates him as much as she loves him, Kordiavis withdraws into himself and tries to stay out of everyone’s way. He starts attending Harper lessons and enjoys them if only to get away from his weird life for a few hours a day.
722-727 & 6-11: As he grows up, Kordiavis starts to understand more what his mother is going through and learns when to stay out of her way depending on the mood. He now knows why she sometimes yells and hates him but hearing your own mother say such things still hurts. Kordiavis takes to spending free time outside, painting or napping under trees until he’s called back in for meals or chores.
728-731 & 12-15: He shows no real skill for any tasks around the Hold but lends a hand where he can when it’s requested of him.
732 & 16: Meets Talaria, an older girl that fancies him, at the end of the turn and he thinks he loves her in return and debates the merits of running off with her. He’s not much use around the Hold and his mom might do better without the constant reminder of what was and could have been. But neither of them have the means to support themselves or even travel off the island of Ista.
733 & 17: Their secret tryst is discovered and Kordiavis finds out he was being used to help elevate her status from a simple serving girl at the tavern. He feels betrayed and wonders if women are just naturally crazy and not to be trusted. Talaria gives birth at the end of the year, though Kordiavis still won’t take her back and wants nothing to do with the child. He earns some looks and sharp comments about his behaviour and how his father must have been a dragonrider to pass down such immoral practices of not taking in his child, but he believes it to be proper punishment for the way Talaria played him and now she has two mouths to feed for her deceit.
734 & 18: One day while napping under a tree, Kordiavis awakens from a large shadow over head. He’s convinced he hit his head or is falling ill as he sees a few dragons land in the distance. Rushing back to the Hold proves he’s fine, but his mother isn’t at the sight of the dragons. He’s instantly struck with confusion over how to feel. Dragons are back! That’s pretty damn exciting but his entire life has been filled with stories of love and hate for the beasts and how they will leave you alone when they die. But dragons! He honestly sees this as a way to get out of the never-ending cycle of the Hold life and a way to avoid marriage, kids, and being judged.
735 & 19: Despite being an adult and able to make his own decisions, his mother won’t let him speak to the Searchriders in case he actually is worthy of a dragon. He hates her for making him stay but like always, that emotion fades quickly and he respects her wishes.
736 & 20: They receive word that Ista Weyr is going to be opened soon to help support the growing dragon population. Kordiavis doesn’t say anything as he debates whether he should just run away to the Weyr and work there for a new life. What surprises him, however, is when Alcynnia is asked to be a goldrider mentor and while he can see her anger, he also sees a hint of longing to be a part of that world again. He finally sees something he wants and acting selfishly, helps encourage her to take the job, pointing out the good she will do.
737 & 21: Despite his age and how he’s creeping closer to the age out line, Kordiavis still doesn’t want a dragon of his own. He’s lived with someone who lost their dragon and saw what happens; he doesn’t want to risk it. He is warming up to having dragons around all the time but he still hasn’t taken a Candidate class. He lends his pathetic skills where they’re needed around the Weyr instead.
738 & 22: He’s fascinated by some of the people in the Weyr and their stories of triumph and loss. It helps in convincing him that Weyr life is better than in a Hold and that maybe he should consider classes soon. He’s still hesitant though and hasn’t mentioned it to his mother yet.

His mother wouldn’t let him sit in on the meeting with the dragonriders that came to see her. He had politely excused himself after introducing them to Alcynnia but they didn’t know he waited around the corner, listening in through the slightly ajar door that they also didn’t realize hadn’t closed tight upon his departure. He wasn’t about to miss whatever it was they had to say and he knew his mother wouldn’t tell him; at least not the entire truth. She had a way with avoiding truths and still making it sound plausible.
Kordiavis frowned when they finally got through the niceties thanks to Alcynnia bluntly telling them to get on with it or get out. She also had a way with getting to the point, as the men quickly found out. The bronzerider – he hadn’t paid enough attention to remember his name – cleared his throat, likely surprised at the tone he was being given but quickly moved into the real reason they were there. Ista Weyr had been voted as one of the two new Weyrs they would open since the dragon population was rising steadily but they found they lacked in experienced and knowledgeable riders that know how to run Weyrs. Kordiavis doubted that; if it were true, they would have all died in the South instead of prospering in Katila and then in Telgar. He supposed there was more than one person helping in both situations but why they were telling his mom any of this seemed odd.
Not that he was focusing too much on that. Ista Weyr was going to open! Perhaps he could be Searched by one of those dragons or simply run away to the Weyr and hope to find a life of his own there. After all, it was where he was born and where he started his life. It could hold the meaning to his existence and he could find a place to fit in, maybe someone to warm his bed again at night – not that he was really interested lately. Talaria had burned him to the core and Kordiavis still wasn’t sure he could trust another so intimately again. But most of all, maybe he could live there and still be counted as close enough that his mom wouldn’t have constant reminders of her former life when she looked at him but they could visit easily when she had bouts of actually loving him and maybe missing him.
Kordiavis was trying to figure out the best way to broach the subject with her when the bronzrider’s words filtered through his brain. Wait; had he just asked to have Alcynnia join them at Ista and be the mentor to his Weyrwoman? Was that a cruel joke? He cautiously inched closer to the door and tried to peak in, needing to see his mother’s expression. He thought he saw anger, fear, and even a hint of longing. He hoped he saw that last one, anyway. If she went, he’d definitely get dragged along!
Besides, he felt it was possibly time for her to see dragons again and what had become of the once proud group of people. They could help each other. Despite how crazy she sounded most days, Kordiavis still believed his mother was intelligent and held the key to so many secrets she hadn’t share since his birth. It was becoming increasingly clear that they really didn’t fit in with Holders; well, he didn’t at least. He was too much of a free soul, judged for his actions, and wasn’t that great at skills Holders felt were important.
He wanted to go to Ista Weyr and if the bronzerider couldn’t convince his mother, than he would.
