R’nd nodded at B’jin’s question about Benden’s age, only slightly afraid to confirm it aloud. He had accepted the fact that he was a father a while and was even growing more comfortable as each day passed with the age of his sons. Benden turning six was still a lot easier to handle than T’ryn turning fifteen though. It wasn’t so much a depressing thought, but one he couldn’t quite comprehend as not only did he have a son that was now old enough to be a dragonrider but time itself was simply flying by on him.
Luckily, B’jin brought up Amorandii’s approaching birthday to help stop R’nd’s train of thought about numbers and ages directly connected to himself. Amorandii was a pleasant indirect connection that he always brightened at hearing about. The little girl had drawn him in rather easily and R’nd always enjoyed spoiling her and hearing about her adventures. “I’m never too busy for my favourite young lady,” R’nd drew their joined hands to his lips to place a kiss on B’jin’s knuckles and set them back down again.
“I’ll pass the message on. I think they’d enjoy going as well.” It’d also give him a chance to remind his dear sister that he didn’t celebrate his own birthday and to keep playing mum on the subject if anyone ever asked. Though he suspected Volfetti wouldn’t be overly curious until Benden started questioning it but R’nd figured he could avoid that a bit longer. He just didn’t want a big deal to be made out of the day, especially since it was also Amorandii’s birthday. B’jin didn’t need to pick between them or try to divide the day equally in order to spend time with them both and R’nd was happy with people left guessing when it was.
R’nd rolled onto his back and put his free hand behind his head, staring at the ceiling as he thought about what needed to be done. “I still need to get Amorandii a gift, though I’m not sure what to get a lady of ten. I suppose a dress would do but I’ll consult with my sister and see what other items are must haves.”
