"She's fun-sized," Valerian replied with a smirk, repeating the answer Larrikith had given him when he insulted her size the day they met. He didn't know what the green had done to the weyrbrat to earn such hatred though he imagined it was simply being her normal sassy and slightly overly rough in play self that didn't sit well with some children. He loved that attitude, even when pinned under water by a snout, and considered it Indivara's loss and his gain.
"Why are you so desperate to Impress? Shouldn't you be out enjoying your freedom that only comes with being a child?" At the age he assumed her to be, he was already working the fields with his father and hating every moment of it though it wasn't because of his sisters pampering him until then and letting him play when not in class. Farming just hadn't been his calling but he had been lucky enough to follow his desires soon after and become a Harper. Maybe that was simply how Indivara felt about Impressing. She didn't want to be on the path chosen for her and felt being a dragonrider was what she should be doing with her life. Considering she was also likely weyrborn, there was a high chance at least one of her parents was a rider and she felt an even deeper connection with the creatures.
He was about to tell her he could see the lure of dragons and that even he still suffered from the urge to be bonded to one but she wouldn't want to hear it and no doubt would see it as some sort of trick. "Anyway, work on your temper and sit close to the Sands and maybe a dragon will be foolish enough to pick you after all, Indi," it wasn't a friendly nickname that was used for the girl, but Valerian didn't remember her full name and couldn't be bothered to find it out again. They likely wouldn't meet after this anyway. Shrugging, Valerian turned, intent on resuming his trip to the tree for a much needed nap.
