“And I was supposed to know that, how? No, wait. I’m supposed to care?” Like he would waste his time with a spoiled temperamental brat. Valerian was close to leaving, already bored with the filthy girl that looked like she was raised in the forest with her wild hair and stance when a stick came flying at him. He tried to move aside but it still clipped him on the side of his forehead, almost in the hairline. With a curse, his hand shot up to rub at the injured location, drawing back briefly to note there wasn’t any blood but it was just tender. A stick to his back caused him to reel around to find the brat that seemed to have it in for him only to see her disappearing up in the tree tops once more. He was right, the child was raised in the forest if she was that agile on branches.
At her final insult flung his way, Valerian turned toward the voice and managed to jump aside, dodging the projectile and snorting back laughter as Indivara managed to knock herself out of the tree to sprawl on the ground. Without hesitation, the young harper approached the wild child and placed one booted foot on her stomach, pressing down just enough to keep her pinned while he stared down at her with a bored expression. “I’ve tangled with Larrikith so I’m really not intimidated by a brat throwing sticks while she tries not to cry.” He wasn’t mad, though the spot on his forehead wasn’t making him a ray of sunshine either, but he was just tired of her hissy fit and antics. But because he was such a nice guy Valerian humoured her by giving rebuttals to her claims against him. “Here or there I would still have to put up with little snots like you so I don’t feel like my life has changed all that much except I get the added bonus of dragons here. So, ungrateful? Not really. Useless? Hardly. Not when B’jin has already given me private lessons on caring for a dragon and skinning a beast.”
He looked over Indivara once more and decided given her age, she was likely born at Katila which made her anger over not being allowed to Stand a bit more understandable but Valerian still wasn’t about to sympathize with her since her attitude disgusted him. “By the way, I was accepted as a Katilan the moment I stepped off of Candidate Isle so you might want to drop the ‘Northern junk’ label before D’ren or Tsuen catch wind of that. You’ll probably never Stand then.” Valerian gave her a small smirk and released his hold on her, stepping back several feet and waited for her new angry outburst.
