R’nya blinked at Quilriana’s enthusiasm about his announcement, and then cringed slightly. He perhaps shouldn’t have informed the young woman before he had had a chance to talk to Rhaedalyn and the Weyr itself was still unaware of most of the plans to send everyone out on their own. He hadn’t even fully opened his mouth to ask Quilriana to keep this new knowledge to herself when he caught her expression and smiled gently. She was an intelligent woman and R’nya knew without requesting words that the secret would be safe with her until it was spread by the other dragonriders.
An eyebrow quirked at the sudden giggling fit Quilriana fell into, R’nya not sure if he should be worried or not by the change in demeanour. His mild expression altered into slightly cautious, his eyes narrowing mildly as he eyed his lover. Her compliment to his abilities to lead didn’t so much stop the curious caution but did dispel it for the time being. He leaned forward without displacing the hand on his cheek to place a light kiss on Quilriana’s lips, a motion of thanks. He wasn’t entirely sure he believed her words; he didn’t look forward to leading by any small amount. But he would accept her words and the genuine belief that fuelled them.
The request took R’nya by surprise, and it showed on his face as he lifted a hand to place lightly over Quilriana’s and move it from his cheek down to between them. He considered her words carefully, refusing to answer before he’d thought them through. R’nya had always been of the opinion that a Weyr was no place for a lady of any standing, and it had always bothered him slightly that so many lived within, whether bonded to a dragon or not. Despite the wonderful women he knew within Katila, such as Rhaedalyn, Kahleena and Ameris to name a few, he was still of the opinion that they were floundering in a man’s world.
“Very well,” He could promise to bring the boy to the Weyr though he wasn’t fool enough to promise the child might Impress someday, though he would certainly ask a couple of the greenriders to have their dragons test the child’s aptitude. “But only Quinvalis; Quilista is far too sweet to be of the Weyr lifestyle,” he glanced at Quilriana, meeting her eyes, and was glad to see the same opinion written in her expression. “You are a wonderful mother, Quil.”
