Oslanis' eyes widened hopefully when a Bronze dragonet approached and plopped himself down in front of him and two other candiates. He glanced about not quite sure what was suppose to happen next. The Weyrlingmaster had said they'd know without any doubt if they impressed and he didn't feel anything beyond a little confused. Was it normal for a hatchlings to just sit there? His thoughts were cut short as a Green hatchling charged up, swiping her claws at her Bronze brother. Oslanis gave a startled yelp, stumbling back out of the way. Getting mauled was not on his to do list for today.
He breathed a little easier once the hatchling's new riders led them off to be fed. Mentally wishing them good luck with their new lifemates. They were probably going to need it. He used his sleeve to wipe a few beads of sweat from his forehead, hoping the rest of the hatching was a little less exciting. If he was on the sidelines he likely would have enjoyed observing a few near misses, but he wasn't a spectator he was a participant. Despite his worry a somersaulting Blue managed to earn a muffled laugh. He was beginning to feel more optimistic as a couple more Blue's hatched and impressed without any major incidents.
Oslanis was still watching an especially friendly little Blue, deciding that was just the sort of dragon he wouldn't mind impressing. Not one that was grumpy or temperamental just a nice sort of. He caught sight of something moving quickly out of the corner of his eye and had just started to turn when he was hit. He gave a surprised grunt as he fell back onto the sands, lifting his hand to shield his face from the oncoming attack. "Oh shards not my face." Oslanis wheezed, bracing for whatever was to come next, eyes squeezed shut. He was expecting sharp talons to rake across his flesh at any moment, but instead something warm and decidedly untalon like brushed across his cheek. Oslanis moved his hands peering out between his fingers to meet the gaze of a Brown dragonet who was half draped over his chest. The hatchling crooned softly, eyes swirling with a rainbow of color as Oslanis relaxed with a slightly giddy laugh, reaching up to touch his dragon.
"Shards Ergrinth you could have just said hello first." He chided as the Brown slid off his chest.[ergrinth]"Well if you hadn't been ogling those Blues maybe I could have."[/ergrinth] Oslanis got to his feet, brushing away the sand still clinging to his robe and inspecting himself for damage. Other than a few scratches he wasn't too badly injured. "Point made, now lets go get you fed." He said, ushering the milky brown toward the feeding area.
"L'nis and Ergrinth!" He announced proudly when the Weyrlingmaster inquired about their names. He thought they sounded good together, fitting for a dragon and his rider. "Oh shit!" L'nis groan a few minutes later, still dolling out pieces of meat to Ergrinth. [ergrinth]What's wrong?[/ergrinth] "They're not going to let me drink now! All that lovely hatching wine and I can't have any."
