R’nd was never a morning person but when he woke up to a frisky B’jin, he didn’t mind them nearly as much. He was still enjoying his time when the humming began and pouted at the interruption and B’jin pointing out he was on taxi duty for all those in the North that wanted to come. He knew it was beneficial for strengthening the bonds between Hold and Weyr but that didn’t mean R’nd had to be happy about suddenly being left alone in a cozy bed that had been doing a wonderful job as acting as a playground for them.
When he finally got around to moving, cleaning himself up, and having a second cup of klah, R’nd found his way to the Sands, parking himself close to R’jit. His friend – not to mention mentor and Searchrider – had his oldest son Standing again and R’nd wanted to be close by in case the Impression happened this time. Ranedaren was a good kid, though he always seemed so tense at Hatchings. R’nd had no idea what went through the boy’s head since he always shrugged off any questions and concerns.
Just before the first egg hatched, B’jin showed up. R’nd smiled at his lover and then gawked as his gaze shifted to the woman on B’jin’s arm. “Rell!” He hadn’t been expecting his sister. He knew she wanted to see a Hatching but R’nd didn’t think she’d want to come to Katila to see one. Telgar was far more impressive since it was of a sturdier and more permanent design and he hadn’t thought to bring her South. B’jin clearly had and while he still greeted his sister with an enthusiastic hug before she went over and greeted R’jit as well, R’nd’s mind was suddenly spinning with panic. Was his room clean? Did it look like he had had sex that morning? What would the Katilans act like after this Hatching? He was beginning to stress out and wondering if he could slip away unnoticed to make sure everything was perfect for her surprise arrival when whisperings around him made him take note of the eggs.
The first dragonet of the clutch appeared and all other thoughts and fears drifted away for the time being as guided his sister to stand beside him so he could point out little details if the need arose. The first Impression was one R’nd was suddenly glad he hadn’t missed, though it was pretty close to happening. The brown, perhaps a bit temperamental, made his way over to a boy he had Searched. R’nd let out a cheer and was still grinning proudly as the brown pair walked off.
As he explained to Eridella why he was so excited, the second egg cracked open and a blue lay there, looking a bit distressed. R’nd held his breath, wondering what would happen and then gasped when Ranedaren was the boy that came forward. When it was clear they Impressed, R’nd cheered again and hugged R’jit, congratulating him for his son Impressing. R’nd wanted to go congratulate both boys but he knew how hungry and tired the dragonets would be and also didn’t want to crowd the area while the eggs continued hatching. He’d have time later to congratulate the boys and meet their dragonets.
The Hatching was off to a brilliant start!
