Alerae was ready for the Hatching, as she had been keeping an ear out for when it might be occuring. She dressed quickly and plaited her hair down her back to keep it out of the way. She firmly told Tank and Opal to remain in her rooms as Aradissicath had been seeming rather waspish and she didn't want to risk her darlings getting hurt. She joined the other girls as they were herded into the Sands.
Her eyes moved between watching the Gold egg and the rest of the Hatching. With so many eggs, the Hatching was bound to take some time. She would luck out though, for as soon as the egg hatched, she would be leaving the grounds, hopefully with a new mate.
Alerae froze as the Gold egg began rocking. When it fell down and stopped moving, she let out a brief cry of dismay. Not another dud Gold so soon after the one Indivara had discovered. A sigh of relief seemed to be emanating from everyone as the shell broke, revealing the gold dragonet. She was an energetic one, more like the typical Green as she spun and jumped around. The little one might be a bit of a handful. She giggled, but was hushed by one of the other girls.
The woman's eyes shot open as the Gold suddenly turned and came right at her. And knocked her over. "Oof!" was all that she could manage as she suddenly had a dragon standing over her. She looked into the eyes of the dragonet...but felt nothing. She didn't see the rainbow eyes or hear any voice in her head. Her face fell as they seemed to realize that they weren't bonded at the same moment. Alerae coughed on sand as the Gold left her to figure out who her Rider really was.
Alerae slowly stood back up. What was wrong with her? Why would the Gold come so close, and then leave. What did that simpering waif have that she, Alerae, didn't? A most unbecoming scowl had formed on the woman's face as she turned and left the Sands, not bothering to see how the rest of the Hatching fared.
