Hello loves! While I haven't been writing, I have been working on updating some issues that have been hanging around on the layout! The Character change box is now at the bottom of the page, beside the up/down arrows! Green and Gold dragon flight dates have been shifted to the bottom of the page, where the (useless!) discord widget was located. Where the dragon flights were in the header, is now replaced by a Monthly Event box! This will be updated at the start of each month, with a fun mini-event you can take part in, if you want to! Sennia fretted over her clothes the entire way to the sands. It wasn’t like there was much choice in what she would wear – the girl only had one set of ‘nice’ clothes. She’d spent the better part of the early morning hours ensuring she was proper to be presented to the eggs. Or the other way around. Though she’d done this several times by now, there was still a nervous energy that sang through her muscles, making it impossible to stand still. She hummed all through the morning as she prepped and, even once she’d been rounded up with the other candidates, hadn’t ceased the sound until someone remarked on it.
Sennia found herself blushing hotly and ceasing rather quickly, though she could not place the name of the candidate that said as much. Mostly because she’d never been really close with any of them. Names she knew, and even faces. But she couldn’t match one to the other for several. Sennia was momentarily shamed at her lack of knowledge regarding those like her. It only served to remind her that she’d not really integrated as well as she should have. Others had friends, close friends, or even lovers. Sennia… had a detached Blue Rider for a friend. S’bel was dear to her for the company he provided, but there was no warmth between them that ever signified that anything else would come of it. Not that Sennia wanted that. The idea of having another child after being taken from her first still haunted her thoughts.
Best not to go out on the Sands thinking such things! Sennia straightened herself as she was led, then made to wait as the weyrlingmaster checked on the Gold. She knew to be respectful, and in truth, couldn’t think of any other way to act. The sheer idea of misbehaving in any way around such a formal occasion and a broody dragon seemed a sure fire way to get reprimanded. Would they doll out lashings for such a thing?
When Sennia was finally allowed on the sands, the sheer number of eggs caught her off guard. She hesitated only a moment, remembering they only had so much time, before she made her way around the chromatic bundle. They caught her eye, albeit briefly. So many dragonets… So many eggs. To think that all those possibilities were closed off to her. She had no place around the chromatic eggs, though she faintly wished to touch them as well. Not with the intent to Impress, but with a desire to know if they’d give her the same sense of peace as the pretty gold egg. Surely a Green would be just as wonderful. But that was a thought she kept firmly to herself. Women did not impress green. Sennia could only touch one egg – the gold. Throat dry from nerves, heart thudding hot in her chest, she faced off with the beautiful egg. It didn’t seem particularly large, but neither was it small. Truly, the most remarkable thing to the egg was the faint golden glow that designated it as her only shot to become more than a breeder in this weyr.
For all her fear of responsibility, for all that she hadn’t really found a place in the weyr, in that moment Sennia could understand why so many wished to Impress. A glance to the Gold Queen that had laid it and her Rider so together melted her heart. Sennia wished to have such a partnership. To have someone bound to her that could not be taken away, who could share in her deepest thoughts and sooth her greatest fears. A Gold dragon could do that, if nothing else.
