He heard the thrilled note in the compliment but R’nd wasn’t sure if he could actually believe it. B’jin was probably only being nice so he didn’t hurt his feelings. R’nd couldn’t blame him though. What had he been thinking by giving his amateur work to such a talented professional? He had a better chance of writing a poem under V’ler’s critical eye and that being accepted as passable than his drawing skills. “You don’t have to hang it anywhere on display,” he assured B’jin with a flash of a smile. How horrible would that be? B’jin would hate him for certain if he had to look at the messy drawing every day in his small room in the Barracks.
When the art was allowed to roll back up, R’nd knew he had screwed up again like earlier in the bathhouse when he wrongly worded his desire to make up for all the missed birthdays. His mind raced a mile a minute as he tried to think of something to say to laugh off gift, pretending it was a joke before giving a real gift when B’jin was moving and invading his personal space. His eyes widened and not due to their noses almost touching but the words that came out with so much conviction. Had he been over-thinking everything again and making it worse?Yes, Ayyonth supplied helpfully before R’nd shoved him to the back of his mind as a hint to stay quiet.
“You do?” the question barely made it out before lips were on his and R’nd easily forgot all his fears and had no desire to deconstruct what exactly B’jin had said in those three small words. The only desire he had right then was the one that showed how much B’jin was wanted. It wasn’t only on a physical level although that was always fully enjoyed and appreciated but R’nd couldn’t deny how much he enjoyed the greenrider in his life and almost craved the next time they would see each other. His arms moved with a familiar ease to wrap around B’jin’s waist to keep the man from retreating from the place he had claimed, but as always, it was loosely held. R’nd had picked up early on that B’jin liked to be able to move freely and the bluerider definitely wasn’t one to try chaining someone down in any capacity.
When it was time to come up for air, R’nd smiled with more affection than he realized he was giving off as he brushed fingers through B’jin’s hair. “Did you enjoy today?” He couldn’t take credit for the start of the day and a lot of his surprises relied heavily on other people’s skills but R’nd had agonized over the day for far too long and hoped it had been at least tolerable for his friend. He wanted B’jin to be happy! If he couldn’t make the greenrider happy, though, then R’nd had a lot more to reconsider besides his idea of what a good gift was.
