Despite the day more or less being made up as they went, built on a combination of the many ideas R’nd had to make it the perfect day, the bluerider felt like it had gone exceedingly well. B’jin never looked like he was uncomfortable when they were in a group, didn’t seem to mind the dinner arrangements that had only been finalized an hour before thanks to Ayyonth’s assistance in relaying messages, and now the greenrider seemed completely content on the beach. Since their spontaneous flight that happened at the lake, R’nd always worried B’jin would react negatively to being near him when sand was involved but considering they were still dressed and hands were more or less behaving themselves, he supposed the beach was a safe place to be after all. Considering it was one of his favourite places to be, R’nd was doubly grateful that he could enjoy it with his lover.
The fact that Ayyonth was in an agreeable mood and not interested in teasing him or playing pranks that day made R’nd even happier. He suspected it was more because his dragon loved Larrikith and enjoyed B’jin’s presence so it made sense Ayyonth would behave on the greenrider’s birthday. The big blue didn’t mind being used for leaning against though he never really did. Their lazy lounging moods always seemed to coincide though R’nd often pointed out that was because Ayyonth was in a lazy lounging mood every hour of the day. The strangest part of their lounging that evening came in the form of the blue firelizard that normally curled up on one of them but was currently occupying space on Larrikith. If R’nd had to guess it was because Rell picked up on how special that day was and was keeping his distance from B’jin out of respect. The sweet thing had definitely earned a treat for that!
Speaking of treats, B’jin still had some to receive as well. His birthday was coming to an end and R’nd had enjoyed spending it by spoiling the man but there was still more to spoil with. Doing his best not to move so he wouldn’t disturb the moment, R’nd reached for the bag he had brought with him and carefully extracted the bottle of the growing increasingly rarer Benden wine he had kept hidden away for over a turn to use on a special occasion and two mugs. The mugs weren’t exactly the right type of glass for drinking wine in but he didn’t want to risk anything breaking on the flight out. R’nd had spent the day smiling and making sure B’jin was having fun but behind that smile was a lot of stressing and worrying something would go wrong.
One mug was given to B’jin and R’nd carefully popped open the bottle and poured first B’jin’s portion and then his own. Setting the bottle snugly in the sand beside him, R’nd then raised his glass for a toast, “to a wonderful day, a beautiful sunset, and… to you. My amazing and gorgeous greenrider,” he clinked his mug against B’jin’s and sipped at the perfect wine. That was something he’d definitely love if they were in the North; having better access to the fine wines!
As R’nd was settling back in to enjoy the view, wine, and company, Ayyonth finally stirred, knowing the most important part wouldn’t get done without intervention.Give him the gift, R’nd. R’nd glanced at the bag that still held some contents and frowned a little. He knew he had to, even wanted to on some level but he was still afraid of what B’jin would think of it. He’s not going to like it. It’d probably only ruin the end of the day. Ayyonth gave a soft snort but made no other movement since he wasn’t fond of the idea that involved him being covered in wine and sand when he accidentally startled B’jin with a sudden movement. You’re making paranoid excuses. He puts up with all of your quirks. I doubt this will scare him off.
R’nd fidgeted with his mug as he thought it over. He knew he was being silly but he also knew how much a snob B’jin could be. In the end, he’d just have to get it over with and roll with whatever happened. “I have one more gift for you, love. It’s not much though.”
