Rhaedalyn let out another soft giggle as Rumour took advantage of R’nya’s Whisper-shaped distraction and stole a piece of food from the plate that had been moved away from the gold. He munched on it happily but it wasn’t enough to sate him and the blue flitter was back for another piece. This time, however, he took more than he bargained for and ended up having to drag the slice of meat from R’nya’s bread, slowly backing up until it was pulled free of the plate as well. With a chirp of triumph Rumour dug in.
Rhaedalyn probably would have fell into a giggle fit at the mischief if it wasn’t for the look R’nya was giving Kahleena and the statement made. Okalinath was chewing on Xyreith? How was that possible? Why would she do that? It rarely bothered the young woman that dragonriders had conversations around her all the time that she wasn’t a part of but there were still times tossed around here and there where she felt especially excluded. This was one of those times. It was abundantly clear there was something going on and there was a connection between her two friends that had dragons and Rhaedalyn wasn’t invited in with anything more than a vague statement by one and a denial by another. What was truly happening would forever be a mystery to her as her friends existed in two places at once thanks to the bond.
She would never know that bond and have that experience, of this Rhaedalyn was starting to believe. She kept failing at the Hatchings she had been brought South to Stand in and so far had only managed to Impress three firelizards. She loved her little group but was it really an accomplishment? She was going to end up being the crazy old firelizard lady living by herself in a secluded corner of the Weyr at this rate! Both hands delicately holding her cheese sandwich lifted for a small bite to be taken and sullenly chewed. It would be rude to interrupt all of the excitement happening with the dragons and whatever the riders were trying to do whether it be encouraging they play or stop messing around.
Questions had wanted to be asked since R’nya was practically begging to be pestered about his plans for the day but Rhaedalyn held off. Instead she scooped up Muffin to set him on her lap to stop him from play fighting with Rumour over the stolen food. She could tell in the way he started to creep in that direction that the picnic was going to get loud and entertaining soon and while that wouldn’t normally be a bad thing, Rhaedalyn was certain squabbling firelizards was never something anyone enjoyed.
