Shards, he'd been caught. It was too hot to tell if he was properly blushing, but he probably was. It he wasn't, it was sunburn. Both options sucked, but he supposed he'd prefer the latter.
"Absolutely not," he said. He didn't bristle in anger, but there was a certain measure of defensiveness there. Ali didn't want to appear weak in front of this bronzerider, but after a moment of awkwardly staring down at his hands, he realized he was being exactly as stupid as Astoreth had suggested earlier. If B'run wanted to jump him for showing weakness, he'd had plenty of chances already.
In the end, all Ali could do was laugh somewhat pitifully at his own situation. He put his hands on Astoreth's belly to prop himself up ans shook his head. "Who isn't a babbling softie for their dragon, though?" he countered, thinking his comeback rather clever. He grinned and slowly looked up, pleased to see that the bronzerider wasn't coming after him or anything along those lines. He relaxed and laughed a second time, this time much calmer and more natural.
"Maybe," he said, glancing at the bronze. Ali was somewhat intimidated by the creature's size, but while he'd always mistrusted the damn things, Astoreth seemed comfortable enough around him.He won't hurt me Astoreth reminded him, almost haughtily.
Ali gave her another slap and moved down to another section of her hide. "Ast, stop being a cow," he said playfully. "You gonna actually be a decent lady now, or are you gonna toss him in the water again?" He glanced apologetically at B'run and shrugged.
