Talian wanted to melt. It was mostly shame. He'd made a little bit of a fool of himself, though Erisi seemed calm enough that perhaps their potential friendship wasn't spoiled. Talian wasn't sure how he was supposed to feel. His attitude towards sex and relationships was horribly skewed and mostly ambivalent, since his experience was so limited. He'd spent his entire life pursuing the same girl, though with varying levels of awareness. He'd locked on to her the moment they met. Even as children he adored her. When he finally got her, he didn't know what to do with her...and just as quickly, she was gone.
He didn't know if he liked flings. He didn't know if he liked kissing boys. He didn't know if it was possible to be friends with someone he'd screwed around with, even if it was so mild an encounter. There was also the smallest splinter of guilt buried within him; guilt because he'd enjoyed the kiss more than he wanted to admit.
He shrank away. "I...well, that was a new experience," he said, his cheeks flushing. "I really didn't mean to frustrate you, Erisi," he added softly, pausing and closing his eyes, stoically awaiting judgement. Was Erisi about to walk out on him? Possibly. That was probably the only thing on Pern that would make the healer feel worse.
