When did you get so lazy? Stop pretending you’re asleep, R’nd. Ayyonth’s patience was rather strong and could go on seemingly forever; so long as you didn’t harm those important to R’nd and him and you weren’t his lazy rider about to undo their hard work. R’nd knew about the first wing practice and while he couldn’t decide if he was excited or dreading it, the man had made sure they both remembered but it seemed it was up to the responsible half of the pair to make sure they actually made it on time, or at all, it seemed. Get moving! R’nd groaned a protest but didn’t say anything more.
When Larrikith curled back up against him, Ayyonth was suddenly conflicted. Did he really want to go do drills when he had his pretty green companion ready to nap with him? He begrudgingly understood R’nd’s reluctance to get out of bed with B’jin snuggled so perfectly against him with the promise of sweet dreams if eyes were only closed…
No! They were young and untried and had to prove themselves. Everyone knew him as being both charismatic and a teasing brat but they also knew R’nd for being a flirt and bed-hopper although a nice guy. They needed to show they were also dedicated, hardworking, and reliable. They couldn’t do that without showing up and Ayyonth couldn’t think with a bronze screeching at him. He stood, ruffling his wings irritably. Now! We will be late and looked down upon for a time to come. Why am I the one reminding you that we helped lead lessons in our weyrling classes?
Ayyonth’s latest screech came right when B’jin jolted to life. R’nd was suddenly cursing when his shin was kicked and as he leaned over to put that soothing touch of pressure on it, B’jin gave him an apologetic kiss. Like he would actually be mad about that minor tap that was clearly an accident? R’nd grinned with amusement as grey eyes watched his lover bounce around the room before his groggy mind caught up. R’nd cursed under his breath as he raced for his closet to find his riding gear as B’jin disappeared, likely to do the same at his own home. Why hadn’t Ayyonth woken them sooner! You’re not pinning this on me. Get dressed and let’s go.
Several minutes later they were landing near another blue and R’nd smiled in greeting to the others around him as he tried his best to casually straighten his hair that was still suffering from bed head. With his reputation, most would understand the dishevelled look but they would also know how vain he could be and kept his appearance in order. When R’nya finally spoke, R’nd stopped fussing with his hair and paid attention only to hold his breath at the mentioning of a list. Had he already earned a strike in the bronzerider’s book? It’d be worth it if he had given the reason for the delay but R’nd kept his eyes from drifting to B’jin, whom he had greeted with a smile all his own when he arrived.
Yes! He was the last name listed and going by the look given him, R’nd knew he had only just made it in time. They’d have to work on a better routine for getting him out of bed and ready in a far timelier manner. Ayyonth’s sigh of frustration was answer enough to let the bluerider know it was all on his end and Ayyonth wasn’t going to go out of his way every time to get his lazy ass in gear. Wait, there was something even more important than his own punctuality; B’ker was late! Kerrin’s stern, rule-loving, slightly intimidating, brownrider father hadn’t been on the list but there he stood, looking slightly annoyed but doing his best to show he was made of stone like always. R’nd had to put a lot of effort into not smirking. Kerrin was going to love this!
He listened with an ever-clearing mind to the directions, sliding to the ground when told, lining up as ordered, behaving himself without being asked to, and tried to recall what he knew about the bronzeriders. He didn’t socialize with brownriders that often and bronzeriders even less and not too many of his friends did either so he was having trouble filling in what were likely important details. Perhaps he should have asked about R’nya and T’shiro when he saw the wing list. Ah well! He’d learn quite a bit today, he was certain, like now with how the seemed to enjoy exercise.
At the word, R’nd dropped down and knocked off the push-ups with ease, daring to give a quick glimpse to B’jin to see how he was doing. His friend was doing well enough, though it was obvious it wasn’t something B’jin did daily. He didn’t risk giving any words of encouragement though, not until he knew how R’nya operated. When he was done with his push-ups, R’nd got up and joined the others in the sprint. He jogged occasionally, mostly when he was feeling a bit lethargic, but it was never anything extreme or at such full tilt. He had a feeling that while he might stand a good chance of surviving however many rounds thrown at them, he was going to be sore and miserable by the time he got home; more so come morning after his muscles rested for a night.
At least he’d have the image of S’kef almost tripping over a rock to keep him going when the pain started to sink in. Oh how he wanted to laugh right then when he caught the brownrider stumble half a length in front of him but Ayyonth was making sure he was staying on his best behaviour and neither of them wanted the shit kicked out of him again either. So that meant he wasn’t about to laugh at S’kef later on either, but he would definitely share with B’jin. They would likely need the laugh whenever they were set free.
